Cement Brick Prefabricated Panel House Construction
Cement brick prefabricated panel house construction is a building method that uses prefabricated panels as the main components. This form of construction has its own characteristics and drawbacks, and it is still in use in some regions.

Construction Method
Prefabricated panels are cement components made in factories. During production, a wooden model is first nailed together, then steel bars are arranged, and finally cement is poured to form the panels. These panels come in two types: solid and hollow. In rural areas, prefabricated panels are commonly used for the roof of the first floor, partitions between floors, or as floor slabs and roof panels, serving as load-bearing panels.
Advantages
- Low Cost: They require a small amount of steel bars, resulting in low construction costs. The construction process is simple, significantly shortening the construction period, improving construction efficiency, and reducing investment costs.
- Wide Range of Applications: Originating in the early 20th century, they were mainly used for floor slabs and roof insulation layers. Most residential buildings constructed in China before 1985 adopted this type of structure.
Disadvantages
- High Safety Risks: Even a minor earthquake can cause the house to collapse. The quality of prefabricated cement panels on the market varies greatly, with many inferior products having an extremely short service life. They may trigger house collapse accidents without people even noticing, resulting in casualties.
- Poor Sound Insulation: The thickness of prefabricated panels is usually around 10 centimeters, and they have long circular holes in the middle. Due to their insufficient thickness and sound-conductive structure, sound has strong penetrating power. Noise from neighboring rooms can be amplified as it passes through the holes in the panels.
- Water Leakage Issues: Prefabricated panels are made up of individual panels joined together, and there are always tiny gaps between them. Rainwater can easily seep through these gaps into the interior of the panels, corroding the steel bars inside.
- Weak Earthquake Resistance: Existing prefabricated panel houses generally have weak earthquake resistance.
- Limited Service Life: The service life of prefabricated panel houses is about 30 - 50 years.
Current Situation
With the development of construction technology, cast-in-place concrete and prefabricated buildings are gradually replacing traditional prefabricated panel houses. Since 2022, China has implemented a policy of renovating old residential areas, focusing on repairing and renovating prefabricated panel houses and only demolishing buildings that meet the criteria for dangerous houses. Some regions have already started demolition work. However, cement prefabricated panels are still being used for house construction in some southern regions of China.
