Can the Toilet Be Moved?

Admin September 27, 2026

The toilet can be moved, but an appropriate method needs to be selected based on the relocation distance, and different methods have certain limitations and construction requirements.

For small-scale and short-distance relocation, typically ranging from 10 to 30 centimeters and not exceeding 40 centimeters, the toilet shifter method can be used. This method involves minimal modification and low cost, but it may affect the flushing performance and increase the risk of blockage. Construction should be carried out before laying floor tiles, and a certain drainage slope should be ensured to allow sewage to drain smoothly. The common relocation distance is 5 to 10 centimeters, and in special cases, it can reach 15 centimeters, but it is generally not recommended to exceed this range. Integrated toilet shifters are suitable for short-distance relocation, usually with a relocation distance not exceeding 200mm; oval flat-pipe shifters are suitable for longer-distance relocation, usually with a relocation distance not exceeding 500mm; and in-wall toilet shifters can meet relocation needs ranging from 190 to 550mm.

When the toilet needs to be moved a distance of three to four meters, raising the floor is a common approach. The floor needs to be raised by 12 to 20 centimeters to create a platform to hide the pipes inside. This method can effectively solve the problem of long-distance relocation, but it will occupy a certain amount of indoor space, affect the overall aesthetics and comfort of use, and the construction is relatively complex with relatively high costs.

Another option is to install a wall-mounted toilet. The water tank of a wall-mounted toilet is mounted on the wall, which saves floor space and makes the bathroom layout more flexible. However, the installation process is relatively laborious and has high requirements for construction techniques. Professional installers are needed to ensure installation quality and usage effectiveness.

When relocating the toilet, regardless of the method chosen, full consideration should be given to drainage issues to ensure smooth drainage and avoid problems such as blockage and odors in the later stage. At the same time, reliable toilet shifters and pipe materials should be selected, and operations should be carried out strictly in accordance with construction specifications to ensure the normal use of the relocated toilet.
