Reinforcement of Building with Prefabricated Slabs

Admin September 18, 2026

There are various methods for reinforcing buildings with prefabricated slabs, and an appropriate plan should be selected based on the actual situation and carried out by a professional team.

1. Foundation Reinforcement

Enhance the bearing capacity of the foundation by increasing its size, deepening its depth, or adding steel reinforcement meshes. Reinforcing agents or sealing materials can be added to improve seismic performance, ensure a stable foundation, and provide reliable support for the superstructure.

2. Structural Reinforcement

Install steel beams, columns, or plates at key locations such as walls, stairs, and roofs to enhance overall strength and stiffness. Reinforced concrete can also be injected into the walls to improve seismic resistance, form a composite structural system, and increase resistance to deformation.

3. Frame Reinforcement

Install metal frames on the exterior walls of the building to enhance overall stability. Reinforcing agents or sealing materials can be added to the frame structure to improve seismic performance, form a spatial force system, and disperse external forces such as earthquakes.

4. Seismic Isolation Reinforcement

Install spring isolators, rubber isolators, or other devices in the foundation or structure to reduce the transmission of seismic energy, lower structural response, and protect the building from earthquake damage.

5. Steel Reinforcement

Add steel reinforcement to walls, stairs, beams, and columns to enhance overall strength and stability. Through the coordinated work of steel and concrete, the structural resistance to cracking and bearing capacity are improved.

6. Other Reinforcement Methods

  1. Increasing Floor Slab Section: Add a reinforced concrete layer not less than 40 millimeters thick to the surface and bottom of the prefabricated floor slab to enhance its bearing capacity.
  2. Bonding Carbon Fiber Sheets/Steel Plates: Bond carbon fiber sheets or steel plates to the tensioned parts and set anchor points to enhance the bearing capacity of the floor slab or walls, suitable for crack repair.
  3. Grouting/Steel Mesh Reinforcement: Improve overall strength and stability and repair structural defects by grouting walls or foundations and laying steel meshes.
  4. Adding Support Reinforcement: Add supports to walls or roofs to increase bearing capacity, suitable for areas with weak local structures.
  5. Section Steel/Clamping Plate Reinforcement: Install section steel at the four corners under the prefabricated slab and transform it into an octagonal support to effectively enhance the bearing capacity of the floor slab.

7. Precautions

Reinforcement should be evaluated and planned by professional structural engineers, with appropriate materials and processes selected; attention should be paid to details and quality during construction, and comprehensive inspection and acceptance should be carried out after completion; environmental and personnel impacts should be considered, and problems should be resolved in a timely manner; regular maintenance of the reinforced parts should be carried out to ensure long-term safety.
