Beijing Temporary Mobile Toilet

Admin September 24, 2026

Beijing's temporary mobile toilets, represented by the tent-style temporary public toilets in the Tiananmen area, feature seasonal setup, functional upgrades, and intelligent services.

I. Operating Hours and Seasonal Characteristics
The tent-style temporary public toilets in Beijing primarily serve the peak tourist season from March to November each year, covering the peak travel period and major events. During this time, the toilets operate around the clock to meet the high demand for restroom facilities from tourists in core areas such as Tiananmen. In winter (December to February), due to reduced tourist traffic, the toilets are temporarily dismantled and rebuilt the following spring.

II. Upgraded Functions and Facilities in 2026

  1. Material and Structural Optimization
    The upgraded toilets use flame-retardant tent soft materials, stainless steel, and aluminum alloy to enhance fire resistance and durability. The external wall panels are widened to 2 meters, and diamond mesh screens are added at the junctions between the wall panels and tent roofs to improve ventilation and prevent insects from entering.

  2. Internal Space and Privacy Protection
    The toilets are equipped with 142 squatting stalls, 5 accessible stalls, and 128 urinals. The height of the squatting stall partitions is increased from 1.1 meters to 1.8 meters, and individual partitions are installed for the urinals. Each stall is newly equipped with handrails, coat hooks, storage shelves, and occupancy indicator lights for intelligent stall guidance, significantly enhancing privacy and convenience.

  3. Special Design for Accessible Restrooms
    The accessible restrooms are equipped with toilets, safety handrails, tissue boxes, SOS emergency buttons, and other facilities. The floor design is optimized for odor control, with axial flow fans installed at the top and silent exhaust fans at the bottom of the stalls to ensure a clean and odor-free environment. These designs comply with accessibility standards, providing a safe and comfortable restroom experience for individuals with disabilities and the elderly.

III. Odor Control and Hygiene Management
The upgraded toilets employ multiple measures to control odors:

  • Silent exhaust fans are installed at the bottom of the squatting stalls to accelerate air circulation;
  • Axial flow fans at the top enhance overall ventilation;
  • The floor design optimizes the drainage system to reduce sewage accumulation;
  • Regular cleaning and disinfection ensure hygiene standards are met.

IV. Service Positioning and Applicable Scenarios
The tent-style temporary public toilets are primarily deployed in high-traffic areas such as Tiananmen, where restroom demand is concentrated, serving as supplementary facilities to fixed public toilets. Their modular design and rapid setup capabilities enable them to flexibly respond to short-term high-demand scenarios such as holidays and large events, effectively alleviating restroom pressure in public areas.
