Beijing Mobile Public Toilet Project

Admin October 11, 2026

The Beijing Mobile Public Toilet Project has significantly enhanced the space utilization, environmental performance, and service quality of public toilets through modular design and technological innovation, becoming a typical case of urban environmental governance.

1. Modular and Integrated Design
The mobile toilets adopt a split-box structure, with functional units such as compartments, sewage systems, and water supply modules prefabricated independently. The walls are made of high-density polyethylene or fiberglass-reinforced plastic, offering both corrosion resistance and lightweight properties. The factory prefabrication rate exceeds 85%, with only pipeline connections and foundation fixing required on-site, significantly shortening the construction period. For example, during large-scale events, a combination of '1 management unit + 10 toilet units' can be rapidly deployed and then relocated as a whole after the event, flexibly adapting to different scenarios.

2. Space Optimization and Accessibility Adaptation
Through the design of wall-mounted sinks, foldable handrails, and sloped floors, the area of a single toilet compartment is compressed to within 1.2 square meters, while still retaining space for wheelchair rotation. In 2025, Beijing will promote the accessibility renovation of 33 public toilets, adopting a 'one toilet, one plan' approach by installing handrails and optimizing ramps. All renovations have passed the inspection by the Beijing Disabled Persons' Federation, achieving an upgrade from 'basic coverage' to 'high-quality services'.

3. Energy and Water Resource Recycling
The independent power supply system uses a combination of solar photovoltaic panels and battery packs to meet daily electricity needs. Water resource management employs a dual recycling path: gray water from sinks is filtered and used for floor cleaning, while toilet water is treated with biodegradable agents to reduce odors and the frequency of water changes. Some models are also equipped with rainwater collection devices, which, after ultraviolet disinfection, serve as backup water sources, significantly reducing water consumption.

4. Waste Treatment and Environmental Compliance
Waste treatment adopts two schemes: vacuum collection and microbial degradation. The vacuum collection system uses negative pressure pipelines to suck waste into sealed tanks, requiring only 0.5 liters of water per suction, with a water-saving rate exceeding 90%. The microbial degradation system decomposes organic matter through an aeration system, with the final products being solid fertilizer and carbon dioxide, eliminating the need for regular pumping and disposal. Both schemes comply with the emission standard limits of the 'Urban Environmental Sanitation Facilities Planning Code'.

5. Typical Projects and Industry Supervision
In 2026, the mobile toilet project for Tiananmen Square was awarded to Beijing Urban Mechanical Sweeping Service Co., Ltd., with a total of no fewer than 195 toilet units, all adopting flush-type designs to demonstrate adaptability to high-traffic scenarios. Additionally, Beijing has incorporated public toilets in the rail transit and park sectors into a unified supervision system, promoting industry service standardization through monthly inspections, assessments, and public disclosure mechanisms, with results included in the evaluation of capital urban environmental construction and management.
