Introduction to Beijing Ecological Mobile Toilets

Admin October 06, 2026

Beijing ecological mobile toilets represent an innovative application of solid waste treatment technology in specific scenarios, achieving resource utilization of excreta through material transformation, energy cycling, and biotechnological management, while featuring a modular design.

Material Transformation Pathway: The device achieves primary solid-liquid separation through mechanical separation. The solid portion enters a high-temperature fermentation chamber, where it decomposes into humus under the action of microorganisms. After heavy metal detection and safety assessment, it can be used as a soil amendment for municipal greening. The liquid portion is treated using multi-stage filtration and biofilm technology, meeting irrigation standards for urban greening maintenance, with lower-standard water recycled as flushing water.

Energy Flow Design: Photovoltaic panels on the top of the device convert solar energy into electricity, supplying the fermentation chamber's temperature control system and lighting equipment. Excess electricity is stored in lithium iron phosphate battery packs to ensure continuous operation on cloudy or rainy days. Heat exchange devices recover thermal energy generated during fermentation to maintain the internal temperature of the device in winter, forming a self-sufficient closed-loop energy system.

Biotechnological Core: Microbial community management is a critical aspect. Researchers screen heat-resistant cellulose-decomposing bacteria, ammonia-oxidizing bacteria, and denitrifying strains, which are proportionally combined into a composite microbial agent to form a stable ecological chain. Sensor networks continuously monitor microbial activity, and when indicators exceed thresholds, automatic feeding devices supplement nutrient substrates to ensure treatment efficiency.

Resource Closed-Loop Management: Solid products are tested to meet organic fertilizer industry standards but are limited to municipal greening use. Liquid products are managed according to water quality grades, with higher standards used for garden irrigation and lower standards recycled. All output products are labeled with composition analysis and usage scope instructions to ensure safety and controllability.

Monitoring and Modular Design: The monitoring system is divided into three levels: sensors continuously collect parameters such as temperature, humidity, and pH; weekly sampling tests microbial activity; and monthly analysis of input and output material compositions. Data is transmitted via the Internet of Things to a management platform, triggering automatic adjustments or maintenance alerts in case of abnormalities. The modular design supports rapid deployment, with treatment units flexibly combined according to usage frequency, and standardized interfaces ensure independent operation capabilities. For example, in 2025, the mobile public toilet in the park north of Mingguang Bridge in Haidian District added barrier-free toilet compartments equipped with children's toilets and baby care stations, balancing functionality with humanized needs.
