Balcony Mobile Toilet or Bathroom
It is not recommended to convert a balcony into a mobile toilet or bathroom, as such renovations pose multiple issues, as detailed below:

Load-Bearing Issues
Balconies are cantilevered structures designed primarily to support light loads from activities like clothes drying and daily living. However, bathrooms typically house heavy fixtures such as toilets and sinks, along with waterproofing layers and tiles, significantly increasing the load on the balcony. Exceeding the original design load capacity can lead to cracking and, in severe cases, collapse, posing a serious threat to the safety of occupants.
Sewage Disposal Issues
Normal sewage disposal in bathrooms relies on specialized sewage pipe networks connected to sewage treatment plants, effectively handling waste. However, the original pipes on balconies are rainwater pipes designed to direct rainwater to green areas or drains below. Pouring bathwater or waste into these rainwater pipes not only causes environmental pollution but also leads to blockages in toilets and other fixtures, causing significant inconvenience in daily life.
Waterproofing Issues
There are significant differences in waterproofing techniques between bathrooms and balconies. Bathrooms typically feature sunken tanks and complex waterproofing layers to prevent leaks during use. In contrast, balcony waterproofing is primarily designed to prevent rainwater leakage, with relatively lower standards. Converting a balcony into a bathroom can lead to damage to the waterproofing layer over time, causing water to drip onto the ceiling of neighbors below and requiring costly and troublesome repairs, including digging up the floor to redo the waterproofing.
Ventilation, Lighting, and Odor Issues
Balconies are the sunniest areas in a home, and converting them into bathrooms blocks sunlight from entering the interior, resulting in insufficient lighting and a damp, dark environment. Additionally, bathrooms require good ventilation to prevent odors. After renovation, the proximity of the bathroom to the living room can cause odors to spread, affecting living comfort and causing embarrassment during toilet use and bathing. Furthermore, such renovations may not be permitted by property management, and if forced to restore the original state, the initial investment will be lost, and further economic losses will be incurred from demolition and subsequent renovation.
