Xinjiang Smart Mobile Toilet Construction
Xinjiang has made remarkable progress in the construction of smart mobile toilets, covering multiple dimensions such as quantity planning, technological innovation, construction models, operation and maintenance models, and service enhancement.

In terms of quantity and planning, Xinjiang continues to advance the construction of tourist toilets. As of now, the total number of tourist toilets across the region has reached 4,335. This year, plans are in place to build 188 new fixed toilets and 47 new mobile toilets, with a focus on intensifying new construction and renovation efforts in tourist attractions and along popular routes. Additionally, new water-saving, energy-saving, and environmentally friendly technologies and materials are being promoted to enhance the environmental performance of toilets.
Technological integration and innovation represent the core highlights of Xinjiang's smart mobile toilets. Smart public toilets achieve intelligent management through the combined application of sensing systems, data processing, automatic control modules, and maintenance management mechanisms. The sensing system utilizes air quality sensors, temperature and humidity sensors, and pedestrian counters to monitor data in real-time. The data processing stage analyzes usage patterns through edge computing and cloud platforms. The automatic control module executes operations such as ventilation and toilet stall display based on the analysis results. The maintenance management mechanism predicts the replacement cycle of consumables based on historical data and arranges replenishments in advance to ensure efficient operation of the toilets.
In terms of construction models, Xinjiang adopts prefabricated mobile public toilets, which offer advantages such as simple approval and site selection processes, short construction periods (a 70-square-meter toilet can be built in just over ten days), and lower costs compared to traditional brick-and-mortar public toilets. Moreover, their appearance and interior decoration are practical and aesthetically pleasing, meeting the needs of various scenarios.
Regarding the operation and maintenance model, Urumqi has taken the lead in implementing the "business-supported toilet" model, generating rental income through leasing commercial properties to provide stable funding for toilet operation and maintenance. This model has increased the toilet open rate from 20% in the past to over 95%, while significantly improving appearance, environmental hygiene, service comfort, and intelligence levels.
In terms of service enhancement, various regions in Xinjiang conduct quality assessments in accordance with national standards, classifying toilets into Category I and Category II. Since 2023, a cumulative total of 36 Category I toilets have been assessed across the region, with plans to assess an additional 15 by 2026. Furthermore, Kanas Scenic Area has implemented a smart toilet system that displays available toilet stalls in real-time. Tekes County's tourist toilets are equipped with dressing rooms and母婴室 (mother-and-baby rooms), providing thoughtful services. In Jimusaer County's Dayou Town, a dedicated cleaning staff system has been implemented, with "no odors, no standing water, and no stains" set as mandatory assessment criteria, further enhancing the visitor experience.
