What is the Container House Lifting Head
The container house lifting head is a type of container accessory, also known as a corner fitting, lifting corner, or corner piece. It is primarily installed at each corner of the container and plays a crucial role in container transportation and usage.

Material and Specifications
Container house lifting heads are typically made of cast steel or iron, offering high strength and durability to withstand the immense forces generated during container lifting and handling. Their standard dimensions are 178mm × 162mm × 118mm, with each piece weighing approximately 10.8-11kg. A typical container is equipped with 8 corner fittings (one at each corner, with four on the upper and lower levels). This standardized design ensures compatibility among corner fittings produced by different manufacturers, facilitating global logistics system integration.
Core Functions
Corner fittings are key load-bearing components in container structures, serving functions throughout the container's lifecycle:
- Lifting and Handling: The openings on the top and sides of corner fittings (such as top lifting holes and side lashing holes) allow lifting devices or ropes to be inserted directly, enabling safe lifting via cranes, forklifts, and other equipment.
- Stacking and Securing: When containers are stacked, the bottom of the upper corner fitting fits into the top recess of the lower corner fitting, forming a stable connection. Additionally, the lashing holes on corner fittings can be used for securing containers to prevent shifting during transportation.
- Structural Support: Almost all vertical loads and lateral impact forces borne by the container are transferred to the chassis or transportation vehicle through the corner fittings. If a corner fitting is damaged (e.g., cracks or deformation), it may lead to container structural failure or even safety accidents.
Application Scenarios
The versatility of corner fittings makes them widely applicable in various container types and derivative scenarios:
- General Dry Cargo Containers: Core accessories for standard maritime containers.
- Refrigerated Containers: Require higher-strength corner fittings to bear the additional weight of refrigeration equipment.
- Railway Containers: Designed to withstand the vibrations and impacts of railway transportation, with corner fittings meeting International Union of Railways (UIC) standards.
- Mobile Homes and Box Trucks: Enable modular assembly via corner fittings, enhancing the flexibility of buildings or transportation units.
Maintenance and Inspection
Since corner fittings directly affect container safety, they must be regularly inspected for surface cracks, deformation, or corrosion. International standards (such as ISO 1161) impose strict regulations on the material and dimensional tolerances of corner fittings. Damaged corner fittings must be promptly replaced to ensure the container's continued suitability.
