Movable Toilet Sign
Movable toilet signs exist, but their practical application is controversial. Currently, there is a preference for fixed designs or adjustable designs for temporary use during holidays.

Case Study: Slidable Signs in the "Tidal Toilets" at Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area
Huizhou West Lake Scenic Area once installed "tidal toilet" signs that could be manually slid to switch between male and female areas. This design was innovative. The sign, approximately 2 meters tall, allowed for the switching of indicators through sliding operations, aiming to flexibly adjust the ratio of male to female toilet stalls based on pedestrian traffic at different times, thereby improving toilet usage efficiency. However, this design raised concerns among netizens in practical application. On one hand, people worried that during the sign-switching process, unclear indicators might lead to embarrassing situations of entering the wrong toilet. On the other hand, there were also concerns about the risk of privacy breaches due to the mobility, such as someone taking advantage of the sign-switching to enter the opposite-sex toilet. Due to these concerns, the scenic area ultimately removed the slidable signs.
Subsequent Improvement Plan by the Scenic Area
After removing the slidable signs, the scenic area planned to replace them with fixed slot-type door plates. This design is relatively fixed, reducing the uncertainty and risks associated with indicator switching. At the same time, it offers some flexibility, being hung only during holidays or other times when toilet stall adjustments are needed. This approach meets the scenic area's needs for toilet stall adjustments at different times while avoiding the issues associated with slidable signs.
Other Common Toilet Sign Designs
In addition to the aforementioned innovative movable signs, other common toilet signs are mostly fixed designs. For example, national standard indicators such as a blue background with a pants-wearing figure for male toilets and a pink background with a skirt-wearing figure for female toilets are used. These fixed indicators are simple, clear, and easy to recognize, enabling people to quickly and accurately find the corresponding toilets without confusion or concern caused by changes in indicators.
