Movement of Toilet Pipes

Quản trị 21 tháng 9, 2026

The pipes in a toilet can be moved, but this must be done carefully according to the distance of the move and the characteristics of the apartment layout, strictly following construction specifications.

I. Short-Distance Movement (Within 40 cm)

  1. Tool Selection: It is recommended to use a dedicated flat pipe mover or round pipe. A flat pipe mover saves space but must ensure that its inner diameter meets sewage discharge requirements; a round pipe must maintain a slope of 1%-2% (i.e., a drop of 1-2 cm per meter) to ensure smooth drainage.
  2. Elbow Control: Reduce the number of elbows and avoid right-angle bends to prevent blockages caused by waste retention. If elbows must be used, choose models with a large radius of curvature.
  3. Sealing Treatment: The joints of the pipes must be fixed with sealant or dedicated clamps to prevent sewage leakage or odor backflow.

II. Long-Distance Movement (Over 40 cm)

  1. Floor Elevation: The entire floor must be elevated by more than 20 cm, and new pipes must be laid with a slope. This method is costly but can avoid the risk of blockages caused by excessive pipe bending.
  2. Structural Safety: When cutting slots in the floor, avoid reinforcing bars. If reinforcing bars are accidentally cut, contact a professional structural engineer for reinforcement; otherwise, the load-bearing capacity of the floor slab may be compromised, leading to safety hazards.

III. Considerations for Special Apartment Layouts

  1. Sunken Bathrooms: Since the pipes are buried in the sunken layer, their positions can be freely adjusted. However, cast iron pipes must be fixed with clamps and coated with sealant to prevent loosening or leakage.
  2. Same-Floor Drainage vs. Inter-Floor Drainage:
    • Same-Floor Drainage: The pipes are located on the same floor, and movement does not require the consent of others, but the integrity of the waterproof layer must be ensured.
    • Inter-Floor Drainage: The pipes pass through the ceiling of the floor below, requiring approval from the property management and written consent from neighbors to avoid disputes later.

IV. Key Construction Details

  1. Waterproofing Treatment: After moving the pipes, the waterproof layer must be redone, especially around the pipes and corners. After construction, a 48-hour closed-water test must be conducted to confirm no leakage before backfilling.
  2. Toilet Pipe Mover: Suitable for situations where there is a deviation between the sewage outlet and the reserved outlet position, but note its length limit (usually not exceeding 40 cm), and test the drainage speed after installation to avoid slow drainage or blockages.

Summary: Pipe movement requires comprehensive consideration of distance, apartment layout, and construction conditions. Prioritize short-distance movement and strictly control the slope and sealing. For long-distance movement or structural modifications, consult professionals to ensure safety and compliance.
