Toilet Bowl Can Be Moved

Quản trị 21 tháng 9, 2026

The toilet bowl can be moved, but an appropriate method needs to be selected according to the moving distance and building structure, and attention should be paid to potential risks.

Common Relocation Methods and Applicable Scenarios

  1. Toilet Displacement Device Method

    • Applicable Scenarios: Short-distance adjustments (usually within 15 centimeters), such as when the toilet's trap distance does not match the reserved drain opening.
    • Operation Method: Extend the drain pipe by using a special toilet displacement device (a pipe connector with a certain angle) to directly connect the toilet to the original drain opening.
    • Advantages: Low cost, simple installation, and no need for large-scale renovation.
    • Disadvantages: The bent pipes increase the risk of blockage. Especially when the length of the horizontal pipe exceeds 30 centimeters, regular unclogging is required.
  2. Floor Raising Method

    • Applicable Scenarios: When the pipes need to be moved more than 15 centimeters or when there is a large deviation between the original drain opening position and the target position.
    • Operation Method: Raise the bathroom floor (usually by 5 - 10 centimeters), relay the drain pipes, and design a slope (it is recommended that the slope be ≥ 2%) to ensure the smooth discharge of sewage.
    • Advantages: It can meet the relocation needs over relatively long distances. When the slope is designed reasonably, the risk of blockage is relatively low.
    • Disadvantages: The construction is complex. It is necessary to remove the original floor and redo the waterproof layer. Moreover, raising the floor may affect the overall height of the bathroom.
  3. Drilling Holes and Relocating Pipes

    • Applicable Scenarios: Relocation across rooms or floors (such as moving from the bathroom to the balcony) when the position of the main drain pipe needs to be changed.
    • Operation Method: Drill holes in the floor slab (with the consent of the neighbors downstairs), connect the drain pipes to the main drain pipe downstairs, and redo the waterproofing.
    • Advantages: It can achieve long-distance and cross-floor relocation and solve complex layout problems.
    • Disadvantages: The construction is difficult and costly, and professional personnel are required. Improper waterproofing can easily cause leakage and may damage the building structure.

Key Precautions

  • Blockage Risk: After relocation, the increase in the length of the horizontal pipe reduces the drainage efficiency. For siphon toilets, the slope must be strictly ensured (≥ 2%). Although straight-flush toilets have strong flushing power, they are gradually being phased out.
  • Waterproofing: When raising the floor or drilling holes to relocate pipes, multi-layer waterproofing (such as applying waterproof coating + laying waterproof membranes) must be carried out at the joints and the holes drilled in the floor slab, and a closed-water test should be conducted.
  • Professional Consultation: Relocation involves pipe renovation and building structure safety. It is recommended to consult the property management or professional plumbers and electricians first to avoid rework or safety hazards caused by self-operation.

Although toilet relocation is feasible, it is necessary to weigh convenience against risks and give priority to methods that have the least impact on the building.
