Theft from Roadside Portable Toilets
There have been cases of theft from portable toilets located by the roadside, which is an illegal act of theft and will be subject to legal sanctions.

Case of Portable Toilet Theft
In Hefei, a person reported to the police that a portable toilet placed in their yard had been stolen. The portable toilet was made by the reporter and was about to be delivered to a customer. The suspect, Xia, who stole the portable toilet, had a 90-year-old mother at home. Due to the inconvenience and long time occupied by his mother's toilet use, and the inconvenience it caused for other family members, Xia, while taking a walk, noticed the portable toilet in the yard by the roadside and got the idea. He then conspired with two others to steal the portable toilet under the guise of moving something.
Illegality of Theft
From a legal perspective, regardless of its value or placement location, a portable toilet is the legitimate property of others. Xia and his accomplices stole the portable toilet without permission and with the intent of illegal possession, which meets the constituent elements of theft. According to relevant Chinese laws, those who steal public or private property, if the amount is relatively large, or commit multiple thefts, burglaries, thefts with lethal weapons, or pickpocketing, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, or public surveillance, and shall also, or shall only, be fined; if the amount is huge or there are other serious circumstances, they shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than three years but not more than ten years and shall also be fined; if the amount is especially huge or there are other especially serious circumstances, they shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than ten years or life imprisonment and shall also be fined or have their property confiscated.
Impact of Theft
This act of theft not only caused economic losses to the owner of the portable toilet but may also affect the normal operation of related businesses. For example, the reporter made the portable toilet for delivery to a customer, and after being stolen, they may face risks such as breach of contract. At the same time, this act also undermines social order and the rule of law, and damages social fairness and justice. Currently, Xia has been taken into criminal custody and will face a fair trial by law.
