Solar-Powered Mobile Toilet

Quản trị 12 tháng 10, 2026

A solar-powered mobile toilet is an independent energy unit facility that utilizes solar energy resources for power supply, is environmentally friendly and energy-saving, and can operate off-grid.

Common Forms

  • Solar Collector Wall Form: Insulation materials are installed on the exterior walls of the building, and the sun-facing side is made into a solar collector wall. Using the principle of hot air circulation, it raises the temperature inside the toilet in winter and prevents water pipes from freezing and cracking.
  • Photovoltaic Power Generation Form: Solar photovoltaic power generation equipment is installed on the roof of the public toilet. Relying on solar power generation, it provides power for equipment inside the public toilet such as lighting, air conditioners, and hand dryers. For example, some public toilets are equipped with 7KW solar photovoltaic equipment, which can generate 6.5 kWh of electricity per hour and can operate for 3 days on a single charge. The photovoltaic energy storage integrated public toilet launched by Xingrui Environmental Protection Technology has monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic panels installed on the roof, which generate an average of 2.5 - 4.5 kWh of electricity per day, sufficient to power lighting, ventilation, sensor flushing, and winter anti-freezing heating systems.

Application Scenarios

  • Areas with Class II or above solar energy resources: With an annual sunshine duration of over 2200 hours, off-grid photovoltaic energy storage solutions are preferred, with a 1.5-times power redundancy ratio to ensure operation for 3 - 5 days during continuous rainy weather.
  • Urban areas with well-developed municipal pipe networks: The "photovoltaic energy storage + mains power complementarity" model is adopted. The electricity generated by photovoltaics is used first for self-consumption, and the surplus electricity is locally consumed through anti-backflow devices. For example, in a project at a national wetland park in northwest China, 56 off-grid solar public toilets have been operating continuously and stably for over 800 days without any mains power connection.

Economic Costs

The cost of a single unit is approximately 30% higher than that of an ordinary mobile toilet, but it is lower in terms of the full life cycle cost. Taking an 8-stall solar mobile toilet implemented by Xingrui Environmental Protection in a logistics park in Shandong as an example, the initial construction cost is 186,000 yuan (including photovoltaic and energy storage systems), with an annual operation and maintenance electricity cost of 0 yuan. The annual savings on water fees and consumables are approximately 3,200 yuan. The equipment has a service life of 12 - 15 years. Comprehensive calculations show that the comprehensive cost can be balanced within the first 5 years, and then a net savings of approximately 10,000 yuan per year can be achieved. If local government subsidies for green buildings are included, the payback period is further shortened to 3 - 4 years.
