Six-Story Prefabricated House
The construction of six-story prefabricated houses is feasible, but there are certain limitations and risks. They have gradually been replaced by cast-in-place structures, although they are still used in rural areas.

Construction Feasibility
It is possible to build a six-story building using prefabricated slabs, and it can be constructed to be sturdy. Historical applications have proven their safety. Twenty years ago, most six-story commercial residential buildings used prefabricated floor slabs, which have remained safe to this day. Modern prefabricated floor slab technology is mature, and through scientific design and construction, it can achieve the same safety standards as cast-in-place floors, ensuring structural safety and earthquake resistance.
Economic Advantages
Prefabricated floor slabs have lower costs and faster construction speeds, making them the preferred choice for many developers and self-built homeowners. They can reduce construction costs, shorten construction periods, and improve construction efficiency.
Importance of Quality and Construction
The quality and construction process of prefabricated floor slabs are crucial. Selecting experienced construction teams and suppliers, using high-quality materials, and adhering to strict construction standards are key to ensuring the safety and durability of the house.
Service Life and Defects
The service life of six-story prefabricated slab buildings is generally between 30 and 50 years, but their earthquake resistance is relatively poor. Over time, quality issues may arise, and the structural integrity of the house may be compromised. Their overall structural integrity is poor, as they are assembled from prefabricated slabs with poor connection performance. There are gaps between the slabs, and improper construction handling can easily lead to floor slab cracking and water leakage during building settlement. It is not advisable to arbitrarily build partition walls on the floor slabs, as uneven stress distribution among the slabs can cause floor slab collapse.
Accident Cases
In the past two years, accidents related to brick-concrete prefabricated slab structures have occurred frequently. For example, the partial collapse of the staff dormitory building in the Ganjiang New Area and the collapse of the Juxian Restaurant in Xiangfen County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, both resulted in serious casualties.
Current Situation and Trends
In 2001, national building codes explicitly required that all buildings should no longer use prefabricated floor slabs, and prefabricated slab buildings gradually faded from the scene. Nowadays, fewer urban buildings use prefabricated slabs for flooring; instead, cast-in-place structures are generally used, providing better overall integrity and significantly improved earthquake resistance. However, many self-built residential buildings in rural areas still use prefabricated slabs, especially families with limited budgets who tend to prefer using prefabricated slabs for building construction.
