Round Container House

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

Currently, round container houses exist in the market, but they are not mainstream products and are mostly designed for customized or special-scenario applications. The following elaborates on this from three aspects: design cases, market supply, and structural characteristics.

1. Practical Design Cases Validate Feasibility
The Christmas limited-edition building at Daegwan Beach in South Korea is a typical case. It forms a single-story circular structure by assembling custom-curved container door frames and adds decorative sculptures and transparent floor-to-ceiling glass on the top, achieving a combination of functionality and aesthetics. The Shanghai Jizhuangke team participated in this project, proving that circular containers can be quickly assembled through modular assembly in specific scenarios. Additionally, some domestic enterprises, such as Qinghai Guangzan Light Steel, also offer customized services for special containers to meet unconventional shape requirements.

2. Market Supply is Mainly Customized
Searching for "round container houses" on e-commerce platforms like Alibaba yields mostly derivative products such as "space capsules" and "capsule rooms," with a wide price range (e.g., from 5,858 yuan to 120,000 yuan) and minimum order quantities ranging from 1 square meter to complete sets. These products typically use steel frames and composite panels, combined with dome designs to improve space utilization. However, they are essentially variants of container houses rather than standard round containers. Some suppliers, such as Hunan Manmei Technology Co., Ltd., explicitly label their products as "intelligent dome steel prefabricated container houses," indicating the existence of such niche demands in the market.

3. Structural Characteristics Differ Significantly from Conventional Containers
Traditional containers are primarily rectangular, facilitating stacking and transportation. However, circular designs need to address the following issues:

  • Wind and Earthquake Resistance: The Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Quick-Assembly Box uses a full steel structure frame and rounded edges to withstand winds of up to Level 12 and earthquakes of up to Level 8. However, circular structures require additional reinforcement for lateral stability, and there are few published test reports on round containers in the public domain.
  • Space Utilization: Circular interiors have no right-angled dead corners, making them suitable for leisure spaces or small residences. However, they occupy more space during transportation, increasing logistics costs.
  • Cost and Craftsmanship: Custom-curved door frames, transparent glass assembly, and other processes are more complex than those for conventional containers, leading to generally higher prices and limiting large-scale applications.

Summary: Round container houses are technically feasible but are constrained by transportation efficiency, manufacturing costs, and standardization levels. Currently, they are mostly used in landscape architecture, temporary exhibition halls, and other scenarios and have not yet formed a large-scale industry. For procurement, it is advisable to contact professional manufacturers of special containers for customized designs.
