Rail-mounted Mobile Toilet

Quản trị 21 tháng 9, 2026

In the past, the direct-discharge toilets on railways did not cause severe pollution, mainly due to the combined effects of physical conditions, natural environmental purification, and highly dispersed emissions.

Significant role of physical conditions: When a train is in motion, the airflow beneath the train is extremely fast, creating an effect similar to a 'shredder'. Under the impact of this high-speed airflow, excrement is rapidly broken down into fine particles or even thin layers, evenly distributed over the ballast and rail surfaces. This dispersed state significantly reduces the concentration of pollutants per unit area, preventing local accumulation. Additionally, the strong air circulation quickly dilutes and carries volatile odor molecules tens of meters away, substantially reducing odors near the railway tracks.

Powerful purification capacity of the natural environment: Ultraviolet rays in sunlight have sterilizing and disinfecting effects, killing most odor-producing bacteria in feces within a few hours and reducing odor generation at the source. Furthermore, microorganisms and insects in the soil feed on organic matter and, under moderate temperature conditions, can decompose feces into harmless substances. Typically, the odor of a pile of feces will significantly diminish within a few days to a couple of weeks, eventually transforming into the smell of ordinary organic fertilizer and achieving natural recycling.

Highly dispersed emissions and strict control: China's railway network is dense, with a total mileage exceeding 160,000 kilometers by 2024. During train operation, excrement is discharged at highly dispersed locations, preventing excessive pollution in localized areas. Meanwhile, railway authorities have clear regulations stipulating that train drivers must close the toilet locking system and stop direct discharge when approaching large stations, marshalling yards, or densely populated urban areas. This measure minimizes emissions in sensitive areas and further reduces environmental impact.

In summary, despite its simple design, the direct-discharge toilet effectively avoids issues such as overwhelming odors or fecal accumulation near railway tracks through physical dispersion, natural purification, and scientific control.
