Prefabricated House Roof
A prefabricated house roof is a roofing form constructed primarily using prefabricated panels, which was once relatively common in rural self-built houses but has numerous drawbacks and is gradually being replaced.

Composition and Characteristics of Prefabricated House Roofs
Prefabricated panels are cement components manufactured in factories and come in two types: solid and hollow. Using prefabricated panels for roofs in rural self-built houses was once quite common. Their advantages include low cost and fast construction speed, with installation possible in just one day or half a day.
Drawbacks of Prefabricated House Roofs
- Waterproofing Issues: There is a high probability of rain leakage during waterproofing work. It is said that 8 out of 10 houses experience rain leakage, and the waterproofing industry cannot guarantee 100% leak-proofing. This is mainly because the joints between prefabricated panels are prone to becoming leakage points, making waterproofing treatment difficult.
- Poor Earthquake Resistance: They should not be used in earthquake-prone areas due to their low seismic coefficient, which makes them prone to collapse. The connection between prefabricated panels and walls is relatively weak, and they are prone to displacement and damage under seismic action.
- Poor Thermal Insulation: The floor slab is generally about 12 centimeters thick. Although it has a hollow structure, its thermal insulation is poor, resulting in high indoor temperatures in summer and low indoor temperatures in winter. Usually, secondary roofing material coverage is required on the floor slab to compensate for this drawback, increasing construction costs and usage complexity.
- Poor Integrity: Prefabricated panels are placed on brick walls and are not an integral part of the walls, so they cannot provide tensile or stabilizing effects. In the event of geological disasters or foundation settlement, they are prone to danger, forming roof cracks that lead to rain leakage.
Development Trends of Prefabricated House Roofs
With the development of construction technology, cast-in-place concrete and prefabricated buildings are gradually replacing traditional prefabricated panel roofs. Prefabricated buildings use modular factory-prefabricated components, with construction periods 30% shorter than traditional methods. There are various brands of prefabricated panel roofs on the market, with prices varying depending on specifications and materials. For example, prefabricated composite panels for factory buildings in Weihai, Shandong, cost 28.00 yuan per square meter, while prefabricated and assembled lightweight panels for bus station roofs in Taiyuan, Shanxi, cost 86.00 yuan per square meter. However, their overall application range is gradually shrinking.
