Portable Toilet Design Guide

Quản trị 16 tháng 10, 2026

The design of portable toilets needs to integrate functional, structural, material, and scenario requirements. Here is a specific design guide:

1. Basic Structure and Functional Design
The core structure of a portable toilet includes a fecal sewage storage tank (or disposal unit), flooring, sanitary fixtures, walls, a water tank, a roof, and mobility devices. The design should balance robustness and portability, prioritizing lightweight yet durable materials such as fiberglass and polyethylene for easy transportation and reuse. For example, a basic frame can be constructed by cutting a water storage barrel in half and attaching casters, wooden strips, and plastic soft panels to form movable walls and a roof. If a flush system is used, a water storage tank and drainage pipes are required; for dry-pack types, a well-sealed fecal collection device should be designed.

2. Spatial Layout and Humanized Design
Adjust spatial planning according to usage scenarios:

  • Public Places: Adopt a row layout of "4 squatting positions + a management room", equipped with ceramic squat toilets, flush tanks, exhaust fans, and ceiling lights, and set up external steps to enhance spaciousness.
  • Family or Small Scenarios: Simplify the design, such as when using a modified water storage barrel, create a door opening on the side, install sponge strips to form a door frame, embed plastic soft panels to form walls, and reserve installation positions for a toilet and sink.
  • Special Needs: For barrier-free types, reserve a wheelchair passage (width ≥ 90cm); for scenic spots or high-end events, add fragrance devices, non-slip floor tiles, and emergency call buttons.

3. Mobility and Environmental Design

  • Mobility Methods: Choose lifting, handling, or powered towing structures according to needs, ensuring that mobility devices such as casters and towing interfaces are secure and reasonable.
  • Sewage Treatment: Options include flush (requiring connection to sewage pipes), non-flush suction (regular cleaning of the fecal tank), recirculating flush (filtered and purified for reuse), or dry-pack (using biodegradable bags). Drainage pipes and floor drains should be installed at the bottom or side of the barrel and connected to a sewage tank.
  • Environmentally Friendly Materials: Avoid using wood that easily absorbs odors, prioritize corrosion-resistant materials such as fiberglass and polyethylene, and ensure compliance with environmental standards (e.g., avoiding damage to vegetation in scenic spot layouts).

4. Detail Optimization and Aesthetics

  • Aesthetics: Paint wooden strips with waterproof paint, use foam strips to拼接 (join) honeycomb wooden panels to make door panels, or use colored plastic panels to decorate walls.
  • Functionality: Install bathroom heaters, showers, and three-way connectors to connect sinks, and use glass glue to fix toilets for enhanced stability.
  • Ventilation and Lighting: Equip with exhaust fans and ceiling lights, and reserve ventilation openings in the management room or public areas to prevent odor accumulation.

5. Scenario Adaptation and Rental Recommendations

  • Outdoor Events: Estimate the number based on foot traffic (e.g., 3-4 restrooms needed for a 100-person event), prioritizing models with sinks, heating, and ventilation systems.
  • Construction Sites: Avoid vehicle routes, set up safety warning signs, and reserve fire exits.
  • Rental Considerations: Clarify the usage period, location, and special needs (e.g., barrier-free dimensions), and confirm whether cleaning services are included to avoid disputes.
