Containers in the Phantom Pain House
In Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, containers in the phantom pain house usually appear at enemy bases or outposts and are an important source of large-scale material resources. Recycling them requires specific conditions and operational steps.

Recycling Conditions The recycling of containers depends on the level of the Fulton Recovery System. The system must be upgraded to the maximum level to successfully recycle containers. When not at the maximum level, even attempting the operation will not complete the recycling process. This setting requires players to prioritize upgrading relevant technology levels as they progress through the game to lay the foundation for resource collection.
Recycling Operation Steps
- Location and Approach: Containers are mostly distributed in fixed positions at enemy bases or outposts. Players need to reach the target area through stealth or a frontal assault. When approaching the container, the system will prompt for interactive operations.
- Climbing and Binding: Press the E key on the keyboard to climb onto the top of the container. At this time, ensure that there are no enemy disturbances around; otherwise, an alarm may be triggered or the operation may be interrupted.
- Activating the Recovery System: Use the Fulton Recovery System on top of the container. The balloon will rise and attempt to bind the container. The key is to observe the state of the balloon: When the balloon rises to a certain height and pauses briefly, and the recycling icon on the screen changes shape, immediately press the recycling button (default is the left mouse button or the corresponding operation key).
- Simultaneous Recovery of the Character: If the operation timing is correct, the character will be pulled up along with the container by the balloon and eventually return to the Mother Base. This mechanism not only saves time but also avoids accidents that may occur during separate recycling (such as the balloon being destroyed by enemy fire).
Task Relevance In specific missions, recycling containers is one of the core objectives. For example, Mission 14 explicitly requires players to recycle a specified number of containers to complete the mission evaluation or unlock subsequent content. Such missions are usually accompanied by time limits or enemy reinforcements, requiring players to plan their routes reasonably and execute recycling operations efficiently.
Precautions
- Maintain stealth during the recycling process to avoid triggering an enemy siege due to the balloon exposing the position.
- Some containers may be reinforced or trapped by the enemy. Clear surrounding threats in advance.
- The number of balloons in the Fulton Recovery System is limited. Allocate their use reasonably to avoid insufficient resources at critical moments.
