Jingmen Container House Villa
Quản trị 16 tháng 9, 2026
The design and construction of container house villas in Jingmen require special attention to the following aspects:

I. Core Design Considerations
Layout and Space Planning
- Combination and Stacking: Using 2-3 containers for combination or staggered stacking can create functional areas such as living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms. For example, connecting two containers can form a flat layout of about 100㎡, including an integrated living and dining area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom with a bathtub.
- Staggered Design: Stacking containers on different levels creates a richer spatial hierarchy. The ground floor can be reserved for a leisure courtyard or passageway, improving ventilation and lighting.
- Multi-functional Furniture: For small units (e.g., 15㎡), it is recommended to use foldable beds, tables, and integrated cabinets to enhance space flexibility.
Lighting and Insulation
- Lighting: Install large floor-to-ceiling windows, roof skylights, and glass partitions to make the interior bright and transparent, blending with nature.
- Insulation: The walls and roof require internal insulation layers, and triple-glazed windows are preferred for better thermal insulation than brick walls.
- Shading: Install roof eaves or terrace awnings to prevent intense sun exposure in summer while enriching the facade.
Courtyard and External Environment
- Facade Beautification: The exterior can be treated with paint spraying, themed murals, cladding, or glass curtain walls to shed the industrial look and create a villa-like appearance.
- Independent Foundation: Containers are elevated on pile foundations to prevent moisture and pests and facilitate site leveling.
II. Construction Process and Compliance
Approval Procedures
- Rural Homesteads: For long-term residence, building approval must be obtained according to local requirements, providing structural drawings stamped by an engineer. Containers cannot be directly used as permanent residences without approval, as this risks being identified as illegal construction.
- Farmland and Basic Farmland: Construction of container houses is strictly prohibited.
- Forest Land: Forestry approval is required.
- Leased Land: Mostly allowed for temporary structures only, with the contract clearly stating the nature of use.
Construction Considerations
- As steel structures, containers should be modularly produced by professional manufacturers to ensure full and solid welding and overall galvanizing or anti-corrosion coating of the container body.
III. Post-construction Maintenance
Rust Prevention and Corrosion Resistance
- During Construction: All cut and welded edges must be sanded and coated with epoxy primer and topcoat.
- Annual Inspection: Check welds, corners, bases, and eaves for small rust spots and immediately sand and repaint them if found.
- Recoating Cycle: Every 8-12 years in inland dry areas; every 7-10 years in southern humid areas; every 3-5 years in coastal areas for heavy-duty anti-corrosion recoating.
- Foundation Elevation: The container body should not be placed directly on the ground to avoid moisture exposure at the base.
Waterproofing and Sealing
- Sealant around windows and doors, container joints, and roof gutters should be replaced every 5-7 years.
- Clear roof leaves annually and strictly prevent water accumulation on the roof to avoid steel plate corrosion.
Preventing Internal Condensation
- Install qualified insulation layers and vapor barriers on walls and roofs.
- Ensure proper ventilation (exhaust fans, high windows).
- Avoid using bare steel plates directly as interior walls.
