Insulated Container House

Quản trị 17 tháng 9, 2026

An insulated container house is a building form that achieves efficient thermal insulation through material selection, structural design, and detailed processing. Its core lies in reducing heat transfer through multi-layered technical means to maintain stable indoor temperatures.

1. Selection of Thermal Insulation Materials

Thermal insulation materials are the foundation of a container house's insulation performance. Common materials include polystyrene boards, polyurethane foam boards, and rock wool boards. These materials have low thermal conductivity and excellent insulation properties, effectively blocking heat exchange between indoors and outdoors. For example, polyurethane foam boards, with their dense closed-cell structure, have a thermal conductivity as low as 0.022-0.028 W/(m·K), making them suitable for extremely cold regions. Rock wool boards, based on inorganic fibers, offer fire resistance and are ideal for high-temperature or fire-safety-critical scenarios. Material selection should be based on climate conditions, cost budget, and environmental requirements.

2. Construction Methods for Thermal Insulation Layers

In addition to materials, the construction method of the insulation layer directly affects insulation effectiveness. Common methods include:

  • Externally hung insulation layers: Install insulation boards on the exterior walls of the container to form a continuous thermal barrier, reducing thermal bridging effects.
  • Internal insulation boards: Lay insulation materials on interior walls for easy construction and maintenance.
  • Composite structures: Combine external and internal insulation to create a dual thermal insulation system, suitable for extreme climate regions.

During construction, attention should be paid to the airtightness between the insulation layer and the container structure, such as using specialized sealants at joints to prevent heat leakage through gaps.

3. Optimized Design of Door and Window Systems

Doors and windows are major channels for heat loss and require the following measures to enhance insulation performance:

  • Use double- or triple-glazed windows: These reduce thermal conductivity by over 50% compared to single-glazed windows, effectively blocking heat transfer.
  • Install weatherstripping: Add rubber or silicone seals between window frames and glass, as well as around door edges, to reduce air infiltration.
  • Optimize opening mechanisms: Choose casement windows over sliding windows, as casement windows offer better airtightness and can reduce heat loss by over 30%.

4. Importance of Detailed Construction

The durability of insulation performance depends on meticulous construction:

  • Material joint sealing: Insulation boards should be staggered at joints and sealed with aluminum foil tape or expanding foam.
  • Structural connection treatment: Fixed points between the insulation layer and the container frame should use thermal break designs to prevent heat conduction through metal.
  • Protection for through-wall pipelines: Electrical wires, water pipes, and other through-wall components should be wrapped with fire-resistant insulation materials to prevent local thermal bridging.

Through comprehensive optimization of materials, structure, doors and windows, and construction details, insulated container houses can achieve insulation performance comparable to traditional buildings while offering advantages such as modularity and mobility. They are suitable for temporary housing, office spaces, and extreme-environment construction applications.
