Inner Mongolia Container House Renovation

Quản trị 17 tháng 9, 2026

The renovation of container houses in Inner Mongolia involves transforming retired shipping containers into sustainable living or working spaces through design and processing. It features convenient material access, climate adaptability, and ecological friendliness. The renovation process includes stages such as container pre-treatment, structural reinforcement, and thermal insulation treatment, and presents various characteristics.

Factors Contributing to Renovation Suitability

  • Convenient Material Acquisition and Transportation: Inner Mongolia has a vast territory, and in some remote areas, the transportation costs and cycles of traditional building materials are high. Standard containers are sturdy steel structural modules with uniform sizes, which can be conveniently transported to many locations by road and rail, making them suitable for construction near towns with well-developed infrastructure and along major transportation routes.
  • Resistance to Harsh Climates: Inner Mongolia experiences long, cold winters and strong winds with sand. The steel container bodies have high structural strength, effectively resisting strong winds. By adding high-performance thermal insulation layers, laying moisture-proof and vapor-barrier layers, and installing high-quality doors and windows, the thermal insulation performance can be enhanced to cope with the severe cold, and the container bodies can be easily sealed against wind and sand.
  • Alignment with Ecological Concepts: Reusing waste containers is a resource recycling method that reduces energy consumption and pollution from steel recycling. The design can incorporate solar photovoltaic panels and small-scale wind power devices to provide supplementary energy, aligning with the abundant renewable energy resources in grassland areas. Additionally, this type of construction typically causes less damage to the original ground surface than traditional civil engineering projects.

Core Stages of Renovation

  • Container Selection and Pre-treatment: Select old containers with intact structures, minimal rust, and slight deformation. After being transported to the site, thoroughly clean, derust, and apply anti-corrosion treatment. Remove the original paint from both the interior and exterior, and spray anti-rust primer and special anti-corrosion coatings.
  • Structural Cutting and Reinforcement: To create open indoor spaces and connect multiple containers, openings are often cut in the container walls, which need to be reinforced with section steel at the cutting positions to redistribute the load. When multiple containers are spliced together, they are connected into a whole through welding or high-strength bolts, and reinforced at key nodes.
  • Thermal Insulation Treatment: The thin steel walls absorb heat quickly in summer and dissipate heat quickly in winter, requiring the addition of thermal insulation layers. A common approach is to build a keel frame inside the container body, fill it with thermal insulation materials, and then cover it with interior panels. There is also the option of adding thermal insulation layers to the exterior of the container. Given the severe cold climate in Inner Mongolia, proper vapor barrier and moisture-proofing are also necessary.

Renovation Characteristics

These include the collision of grassland elements with industrial style, low-cost renovations transforming into tourist attractions, alignment of ecological concepts with eco-tourism trends, and the "internet celebrity" attribute.
