Dandong Container House Design

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

The design of container houses in Dandong needs to comprehensively consider factors such as spatial layout, lighting and insulation, facade beautification, and compliant construction. The following is an elaboration from three aspects: design key points, construction process, and post-construction maintenance.

I. Spatial Layout and Functional Design Container houses can expand functional areas through splicing and combination. For example, by connecting or staggered stacking 2-3 containers, spaces such as an integrated living and dining room, bedrooms, and bathrooms can be formed. Staggered-floor design can create rich layers, with a leisure courtyard or aisle left on the ground floor to improve ventilation and lighting. For small units, it is recommended to use multi-functional furniture such as folding beds and integrated cabinets to enhance space utilization. In a case, a family in a Jiangsu town planned a bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom using a single container, meeting living needs through reasonable zoning; a Danish guy built a family residence with 9 containers, installing large windows to introduce natural light and balancing functionality and comfort.

II. Lighting, Insulation, and Shading Design In terms of lighting, installing large floor-to-ceiling windows, roof skylights, or glass partitions can enhance indoor transparency. For insulation, internal insulation layers need to be installed on the walls and roof, and triple-glazed windows should be selected, which have better heat insulation effects than red brick walls. Shading can be achieved through roof eaves or terrace sunshades, preventing sun exposure in summer while enriching the facade. For example, in a Dandong case, the exterior of the container was painted black, paired with a natural wood interior, creating a visual impact; a terrace was set up on the roof to meet both leisure and lighting needs.

III. Facade Beautification and Integration with the External Environment The exterior facade can be treated with paint spraying, themed spray painting, cladding, or glass curtain walls to get rid of the industrial feel. The container is elevated on pile foundations to prevent moisture and insects and facilitate site leveling. For example, a mountain resort hotel was composed of 6 containers, built according to the terrain, forming a courtyard in the middle, with large floor-to-ceiling windows in the rooms, integrating with the natural landscape.

IV. Compliant Construction and Approval Process Construction on rural homesteads in Dandong requires going through approval procedures and providing structural drawings to avoid the risk of illegal construction. Construction on cultivated land and basic farmland is strictly prohibited, and forestry approval is required for forest land. Most leased land can only be used as temporary buildings, and the contract needs to clarify the nature of use.

V. Post-construction Maintenance Points The main body of the container is made of steel and requires regular rust prevention and corrosion protection, with a focus on inspecting welds, corners, and other parts. In southern humid areas, the recoating cycle needs to be shortened. For waterproof sealing, the sealant around doors and windows and at splicing joints needs to be replaced regularly, and roof leaves need to be cleaned. To prevent internal condensation, qualified insulation layers and vapor barriers need to be installed, and ventilation design needs to be strengthened.
