Drilling in Container Mobile Houses

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

Drilling in container mobile houses requires careful operation based on the box structure, material, and purpose. Non-professionals are not recommended to drill holes by themselves; instead, they should contact the manufacturer or a professional construction team for handling.

Key Considerations Before Drilling

  1. Structural Safety
The main frame of container mobile houses is typically made of welded steel structures, such as corner posts and main beams, which are the core load-bearing components. Drilling is strictly prohibited in these areas, as it can disrupt the structural load path, leading to deformation or even collapse of the house. If equipment or pipelines need to be installed, non-load-bearing areas, such as side panels (non-load-bearing wall panels) or decorative panels, should be prioritized.

  2. Material Characteristics

    • Steel Boxes: Commonly found in standard container-modified houses, the steel plate thickness is generally 2-3mm. Drilling requires professional tools (such as magnetic drills) and control of the hole diameter (usually not exceeding 10mm) to avoid cracks caused by local stress concentration.
    • Aluminum Alloy/Composite Sandwich Panel Boxes: Aluminum alloy is lighter but has lower strength, making it prone to deformation when drilled. Composite sandwich panels (such as rock wool sandwich panels) have thermal insulation materials inside, and drilling may damage the insulation layer, requiring prior assessment of the impact.
  3. Functional Use Restrictions

    • Accommodation/Office Houses: If equipment such as air conditioners or exhaust fans needs to be installed, hole positions should be reserved during the design stage to avoid damaging the wall waterproof layer or sound insulation layer during later drilling.
    • Specialized Boxes (such as medical boxes, explosion-proof boxes): Strict adherence to industry standards is required. For example, medical boxes may require a sterile environment, and drilling must comply with hygiene standards; explosion-proof boxes have special wall thickness and material requirements, and unauthorized drilling may affect explosion-proof performance.

Post-Drilling Repair and Maintenance

  1. Waterproofing: After drilling in steel boxes, waterproof glue should be applied or waterproof sleeves installed to prevent rainwater leakage; composite sandwich panels require repair of the internal insulation layer and restoration of the outer panel.
  2. Corrosion Protection: After drilling in steel structures, anti-rust paint should be applied to prevent corrosion caused by metal exposure, thereby extending the service life of the house.
  3. Load Verification: If the drilling position involves hanging heavy objects (such as lamps, shelves), the local load-bearing capacity should be recalculated, and the structure should be reinforced if necessary.
