Water Heater Installation in Container Houses

Quản trị 17 tháng 9, 2026

Container houses can be equipped with water heaters, but planning and handling in terms of model selection, installation location, electrical circuits, and water pipes must be carried out according to the type of water heater and the characteristics of the container house.

  1. Model Selection
Mainstream water heaters are divided into storage-type and instant-type. Storage-type water heaters have lower electrical circuit requirements (requiring a 16A socket and wires of 4 square millimeters or more), are adaptable for installation, and provide a stable hot water supply, but they are bulky and require preheating. Instant-type water heaters heat water instantly and are compact, but they have high electrical capacity requirements (instantaneous power of 3000W-8500W), requiring a separate dedicated copper wire line of 4 square millimeters or more and verification of the electricity meter capacity (e.g., requiring an electricity meter of 25A or more).

  2. Installation Location and Wall Reinforcement
The installation location should be well-ventilated, close to the water usage point, and convenient for operation and maintenance. The bottom of an electric water heater should be 1.2-1.5 meters above the ground. The wall panels of container houses are mostly non-load-bearing structures and cannot directly support heavy objects. Taking a 60L storage-type water heater as an example, when filled with water, its total weight is nearly 100 kilograms, and the installation wall needs to be able to withstand four times the weight (about 400 kilograms). It can be fixed by locating the internal beams of the container or by adding special transition brackets and back panels to transfer the stress point to the main load-bearing frame. Alternatively, a hole can be drilled with a hole saw to pass through bolts, with large washers installed on the outside and a special hanging plate on the inside. If connecting to a bathroom, the installation height can be appropriately increased to avoid space conflicts.

  3. Electrical Circuit Safety

    • Dedicated Power Line: Instant-type water heaters must have a separate dedicated copper wire line of 4 square millimeters or more, and it is also recommended to use wires of the same specification for storage-type water heaters.
    • Leakage Protection: A leakage protection circuit breaker with a matching rated current must be installed (e.g., a 32A or higher D-type circuit breaker is commonly used for instant-type water heaters), and dual protection with a "leakage protection circuit breaker + anti-electric shock wall" should be adopted.
    • Reliable Grounding: The grounding resistance should be ≤4Ω, and priority should be given to connecting to the original ground wire of the building. If this is not possible, a galvanized expansion bolt with a depth of ≥10 centimeters can be driven into a damp area as an artificial grounding electrode.
  4. Water Pipe Connection and Safety Devices

    • Water Pipe Connection: The inlet and outlet water pipes need to be tightly fixed, and the interfaces should be sealed with Teflon tape to prevent water leakage.
    • Water Pressure Testing and Adjustment: Test the water circuit pressure before installation. The normal water pressure should be ≤0.7MPa. If the water pressure is too high, a pressure reducing valve should be installed at the water inlet.
    • Safety Valve Installation: A safety valve must be correctly installed and connected at the cold water inlet.
  5. Safety Precautions
The installation location should be kept away from flammable items and combustible materials to ensure good ventilation and heat dissipation. After installation, careful inspection and testing should be carried out to confirm that the water heater is firmly installed and functions normally.
