Tiling Container Houses

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

Container houses can be tiled, but it requires targeted treatment based on the characteristics of containers, with attention to key aspects such as waterproofing, moisture resistance, and structural reinforcement.

I. Feasibility of Tiling

Tiling container houses is technically feasible, but the metallic nature of containers must be considered. Metal surfaces are smooth and susceptible to temperature changes, which can lead to poor adhesion or cracking of tiles if applied directly. Therefore, surface treatment and the selection of appropriate adhesive materials are necessary to ensure tile stability.

II. Construction Key Points

  1. Surface Treatment: The inner walls of containers are typically metallic and require rust prevention treatment and the application of a specialized bonding agent to enhance the adhesion between the base layer and tile adhesive. In some cases, light steel keel frames are installed, covered with cement fiber boards or OSB boards as the base layer, providing a stable surface for tiling.
  2. Waterproofing and Moisture Resistance: Container houses must focus on treating wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. A waterproof coating should be applied to the base layer, and expansion joints should be reserved during tile installation. Waterproof tile adhesives and grouts should be used to prevent moisture penetration, which could lead to metal corrosion or tile detachment.
  3. Structural Reinforcement: Tiles are relatively heavy, so the load-bearing capacity of the container must be evaluated. Additional beams or support structures can be added in key areas to distribute the load and prevent local deformation. For example, when tiling bathroom walls, it is essential to ensure that the keel frame is securely connected to the main body of the container.

III. Practical Application Cases

  1. Bathroom Design: In one case, blue gradient tiles were used to pave the bathroom walls, providing both aesthetic appeal and waterproofing performance suitable for outdoor environments. Thin-set tiling was employed to reduce the load, and flexible tile adhesive was used to accommodate metal expansion and contraction.
  2. Kitchen and Storage Areas: In some renovation cases, kitchen walls were tiled for easy cleaning, with a light steel keel + cement board base structure ensuring stability. The storage area adopted a partial tiling design to balance functionality and cost.
