How Big Are Container Houses

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

Container houses come in a variety of sizes, with common specifications ranging from 9 square meters to 36 square meters, depending on the type and design. The following provides an introduction from three aspects: regular sizes, special designs, and customized sizes.

Regular-sized container houses Among the derivative houses of international standard containers, the 20-foot specification is relatively typical. For example, the double-wing expandable container has its side spaces folded in during transportation for easy loading into containers and international shipping. Upon arrival at the project site, by expanding the side wings, it can form an indoor usable space of approximately 36 square meters. In addition, commonly available standard-sized container houses on the market are 6 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 2.8 meters high, with an area of 18 square meters, often used in construction sites and road construction projects. The specification of 7 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 2.8 meters high, with an area of 21 square meters, is commonly used as a two-story container mobile house, equipped with corridors and balconies. There are also smaller specifications, such as 3 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 2.8 meters high, with an area of 9 square meters, often used as guardhouses or small warehouses.

Specially designed container houses Some container houses break through traditional size limitations through innovative designs. For example, the Carroll House in New York, USA, is stacked from 15 containers and covers an area of 464.5 square meters, including five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a study, and a home theater. The container house in Stockholm, Sweden, is stacked from eight containers and is supported by metal columns to keep a distance from the ground, reducing its impact on the environment. These cases show that the scale of container houses can be significantly expanded according to needs, even achieving multi-story and multi-functional combinations.

Customized-sized container houses In addition to standard sizes, container houses support a high degree of customization. Manufacturers can adjust the length, width, and height according to customer needs, such as non-standard sizes of 3m×8m, 3m×12m, etc. The width can be selected from 2.5m, 2.55m, 3m, 4m, etc., and the height can be selected from 2.6m, 2.7m, 2.8m, 2.9m, etc. Special requirements such as the positions of doors and windows, partitions, exteriors, and interior decorations can all be designed as needed to adapt to diverse scenarios such as temporary housing, offices, and exhibition halls.
