Container House Rust Problem
Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026
The rust problem of container houses can be solved by standardizing anti-corrosion processes, regular maintenance, and reasonable material selection. The specific measures are as follows:

I. The choice of anti-corrosion process is crucial
The main body of a container house is steel structure, and its durability directly depends on the anti-corrosion treatment method.
- Hot-dip galvanizing process: The steel is entirely immersed in a zinc bath to form a zinc-iron alloy layer, which has extremely strong anti-rust ability and is especially suitable for coastal areas, high-humidity environments, or places with corrosive gases. For example, some container buildings in Germany use hot-dip galvanizing treatment. Even if the outer walls retain natural rust, the internal structure is still protected by the zinc layer.
- Anti-corrosion paint spraying: A multi-layer system of "primer + intermediate coat + topcoat" needs to be adopted, and the quality of factory-prefabricated spraying is significantly better than that of on-site manual painting. For example, the container houses produced by a company in Xi'an use galvanized steel materials with fluorocarbon paint coatings, claiming "no rust and no corrosion".
- Material upgrade: Some high-end products use weathering steel or stainless steel (such as 316L food-grade stainless steel) to reduce the risk of rust from the source. A community in Shenzhen once had a problem of rust due to counterfeit water tank materials and finally solved the隐患 (hidden danger) by upgrading to 316L stainless steel materials.
II. Regular maintenance is essential
Even with high-quality anti-corrosion processes, container houses still require regular inspection and maintenance:
- Rust removal and paint reapplication: When the paint peels off or rust appears, it is necessary to promptly grind off the rust and reapply anti-corrosion paint to prevent the spread of rust. For example, the maintenance specifications for steel structure factories require annual inspections and painting of key areas such as the bottoms of beams and columns and splicing joints.
- Drainage system cleaning: Blockages in gutters and downspouts can lead to water accumulation, accelerating the rusting of steel. Regular dredging and inspection of the drainage slope are required to prevent water accumulation on the roof.
- Environmental control: Keep the area around the house dry and well-ventilated to reduce water vapor accumulation; avoid stacking corrosive items near the house.
III. The usage scenario determines the anti-corrosion plan
- Coastal or high-humidity areas: Priority should be given to choosing hot-dip galvanized components or thickening the anti-corrosion paint layer. For example, container hotels in northern Germany use weather-resistant steel plates to wrap the outer surfaces.
- Ordinary inland environments: A qualified multi-layer anti-corrosion paint process can meet the requirements, but it is necessary to avoid using inferior paint or simplifying the painting process.
- Chemical or corrosive gas environments: Special anti-corrosion coatings are required. For example, the underground garage of a resettlement community in Suzhou had a problem of rust due to insufficient steel reinforcement protection layers. The developer only applied anti-rust paint, which did not solve the problem, and professional reinforcement treatment was needed.
