Number of Rooms in Container Houses

Quản trị 17 tháng 9, 2026

The number of rooms in a container house mainly depends on the container's specifications and the renovation layout, and can meet the needs of different numbers of people in different scenarios. The following explains from two aspects: common specifications and special cases.

Number of Rooms and Occupancy in Common-sized Containers Take standard containers as an example. A 20-foot container (6.06 meters long, 2.44 meters wide, and 2.59 meters high) has limited space and is usually renovated with internal partitions to create 2-3 independent functional areas, such as 2 offices paired with a small meeting room or storage room. In this layout, if each independent office accommodates 2 people and the shared area can accommodate an additional 2 people, the whole setup is suitable for 4-6 people. A 40-foot container (12.19 meters long, 2.44 meters wide, and 2.59 meters high) has double the space and offers greater renovation flexibility. If divided into 4-5 independent rooms, such as 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and 1 kitchen, or 4 offices plus 1 shared lounge, it can meet the long-term accommodation needs of 8-10 people. For example, when used as temporary dormitories, each room can be equipped with 2 bunk beds, allowing 4 rooms to accommodate 8 people, with the remaining space serving as a common activity area.

Container Room Layouts in Special Scenarios In large-scale events or emergency scenarios, the renovation of container houses breaks away from conventional layouts. For instance, during the Nagoya Asian Games, to meet the accommodation needs of athletes, some containers were designed with a "two-bedroom, one-living-room" structure: including 2 bedrooms (each with a double bed), a living room (equipped with a sofa and a simple dining table), and an independent bathroom, accommodating a total of 3 people. This design achieves a balance between functional zoning and comfort within a limited area by optimizing space utilization (such as using foldable furniture and built-in storage cabinets) and increasing the ceiling height (some custom containers are over 3 meters high).

Core Factors Affecting the Number of Rooms In addition to specifications, the renovation goal directly affects the number of rooms. If the aim is to maximize office space, a 20-foot container may only be divided into 1 meeting room and 2 independent offices; if used as a temporary medical station, it may be divided into 1 consultation room, 1 pharmacy, and 1 observation area. Furthermore, factors such as whether to add a mezzanine (such as a loft design) or use movable partitions will further adjust the number of rooms and functional flexibility.
