Container House Roof Renovation

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

The renovation of a container house roof requires comprehensive consideration of functionality, aesthetics, waterproofing, and structural safety. Common renovation plans include roof terrace transformation, solar panel installation, greening design, and thermal insulation and waterproofing treatment.

Roof Terrace Transformation

The container roof can be transformed into a leisure terrace by reinforcing the structure and laying anti-slip flooring (such as anti-corrosion wood or outdoor tiles), enhancing safety and comfort. In some cases, movable sunshades or canopies are installed on the roof to balance lighting and rain protection needs. For example, a container cabin in a forest has lifting rods installed at the four corners of the roof, ensuring ventilation and lighting while using solar panels on the top to solve power supply issues and reserving terrace space for leisure.

Solar Panels and Energy-Saving Design

The flat roof characteristic is suitable for installing solar panels to meet daily power needs. For instance, a 15㎡ container cabin has three solar panels installed on the roof, combined with energy storage equipment to achieve energy self-sufficiency. Additionally, thermal insulation layers (such as polystyrene boards or rock wool) and waterproof membranes can be added to the roof to enhance warmth in winter and coolness in summer and reduce energy consumption.

Greening and Ecological Design

Roof greening requires ensuring load-bearing capacity and waterproofing. Lightweight planting substrates (such as coconut coir and perlite) and shallow-rooted plants (such as Sedum lineare and succulents) can be used. In one case, artificial turf was laid on the container roof, paired with wooden flower boxes, beautifying the environment and lowering the roof temperature. If the structure allows, stepped greening or vertical gardens can be designed to increase ecological benefits.

Waterproofing and Drainage System

The focus of roof renovation is on treating the waterproof layer. It is recommended to use SBS modified bitumen waterproof membranes or TPO single-ply roofing systems to ensure weather resistance and puncture resistance. The drainage design can follow the original slope of the container (usually 2%-5%) or add gutters and downspouts to avoid water accumulation. In one case, the roof adopts a skylight design with a high middle and low sides, facilitating drainage and allowing star-gazing at night.

Structural Reinforcement and Safety Measures

If additional loads (such as terrace furniture and greening) need to be carried, the top beams of the container should be reinforced, for example, by adding steel beams or welding support frames. At the same time, guardrails (height ≥ 1.1 meters) should be installed at the edges, and nighttime reflective markings (such as bright green decorative strips) should be set up to enhance safety.
