Container House Renovation Cabinet

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

The renovation of cabinets in container houses requires a combination of spatial planning, functional requirements, and material characteristics, achieving efficient storage and unified style through customized design.

1. Spatial Planning and Functional Adaptation

The interior space of container houses is limited, so cabinet design must prioritize core functions. For example, in the bedroom, a custom-made tatami combination cabinet can be installed, with drawers or flip-up storage spaces beneath the bed, and open shelves embedded in the headboard for both sleeping and storage. The kitchen can adopt a linear or L-shaped cabinet layout, utilizing vertical space with overhead and base cabinets, and installing rotating pull-out baskets in corners to enhance utilization. In the bathroom, wall-mounted cabinets can reduce floor space occupation and reserve access for pipeline maintenance. In a case study, a foreigner designed a foldable bed in a 15㎡ container bedroom, serving as a sofa during the day and unfolding into a bed at night, with curved storage cabinets installed on the sides and top of the bed for flexible space conversion.

2. Material Selection and Structural Reinforcement

Container houses are made of high-strength steel, so the connection stability between the cabinets and the container body must be considered during renovation. It is recommended to use a light steel keel frame, fixed to the inner walls of the container through welding or bolts, and covered with fire-resistant and moisture-proof panels (such as OSB boards or calcium silicate boards). If additional thermal insulation is required, polystyrene boards or rock wool can be filled between the cabinet back panels and the container body. For kitchen and bathroom cabinets, waterproof multi-layer boards should be selected and treated with asphalt coating. For example, in the renovation project at Qinhuangdao Port, anti-corrosion wooden veneers were installed inside and outside the containers, and wooden floors were laid on the ground, enhancing foot comfort and weakening the industrial feel through material transitions.

3. Style Unification and Detail Optimization

Cabinet design should coordinate with the overall style of the container house. Industrial style can retain the original color of the container body, paired with black metal handles and exposed rivets; natural style can adopt wooden cabinet doors, paired with rattan or acrylic decorative panels; modern style can create a minimalist feel through handle-less design, hidden light strips, and high-gloss panels. Additionally, attention should be paid to detail processing: hydraulic buffer hinges should be selected for cabinet doors to avoid opening and closing noise; drawer tracks should be equipped with damping models to enhance the user experience; rounded corners should be made at cabinet corners to prevent bumps. For example, in a renovation project in Hangzhou, the sideboard in the container living room adopted a grid pattern, echoing the ceiling lines, with flowers and ornaments placed on the cabinet surface to reinforce the space theme.
