Container House Renovation into Bathroom

Quản trị 17 tháng 9, 2026

Container houses can be renovated into bathrooms, but it is essential to strictly adhere to key technical requirements such as structural reinforcement, waterproofing and drainage, and separation of water and electricity. Here are the specific renovation points:

1. Floor Reinforcement and Anti-Corrosion Treatment
The bottom of a container is made of steel structure, which is prone to rust and perforation when exposed to moisture for a long time. Before renovation, thorough rust removal is required, followed by the application of anti-rust paint. Then, a 20mm thick cement mortar leveling layer is laid, covered with waterproofing membrane or welded stainless steel drainage channels. This step enhances the durability of the floor and prevents structural damage caused by sewage penetration.

2. Drainage System Design
Drainage pipes with a slope of ≥2% need to be pre-embedded, with a preference for PVC pipes with a diameter of ≥50mm. Holes should be pre-drilled on the side walls of the container to avoid damaging the structure later. The drainage outlet should be directed to the outside of the container for centralized treatment to prevent accelerated corrosion caused by water accumulation. For example, this design is commonly used in renovation projects in tourist attractions to ensure rapid drainage.

3. Waterproof Sealing Treatment

  • Joints between wall panels and the floor: Use neutral silicone structural adhesive to seal the corners and baseboards, press in waterproof adhesive strips, and set up a 5-10cm high water stop ridge to block water flow.
  • Walls and ceiling: Apply waterproof coating on both the inner and outer surfaces, and seal the joints with sealant. Doors and windows should be made of waterproof materials, and the sealing strips should be intact to prevent leakage.
  • Special parts: If wet microbial treatment technology is used, double sealing of the sewage pipe joints is required to prevent odor diffusion.

4. Separation of Water and Electricity Layout
Electrical wires must be laid in pipes on the top of the container, while water supply and drainage pipes should be routed along the bottom or side walls, maintaining a distance of ≥30cm between them. It is recommended to use splash-proof sockets and waterproof switches to avoid the risk of short circuits or electric shocks. For example, this layout is commonly used in the renovation of temporary bathrooms in oil fields to ensure safety.

5. Ventilation and Dehumidification System
Install forced exhaust fans and active dehumidifiers, and reserve louvered vents on the walls. Some plans may reserve ventilation pipe interfaces for easy installation of additional equipment later. Case studies in urban public spaces show that good ventilation can significantly reduce odors and humidity.

6. Sewage System Design

  • Sewage collection: Small toilets can use septic tanks or biodegradation devices, while large toilets need to be connected to municipal pipelines or adopt efficient treatment technologies (such as membrane bioreactors).
  • Pipe maintenance: The layout of sewage pipes should be reasonable to avoid excessive bends that may cause blockages. Cleaning ports should be set up at easily blocked parts or easy-to-clean materials (such as PVC-U pipes) should be used.

Precautions: Before renovation, check the original structural defects of second-hand containers (such as roof depression, weld cracking) to avoid direct use that may lead to safety hazards. Renovated container bathrooms are mostly used in places such as oil fields and tourist attractions, featuring convenient transportation, repeatable mobility, and environmental protection and energy efficiency.
