Conditions for Placing Container Houses

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

The placement of container houses must meet conditions such as land nature, urban-rural planning, and compliance of usage, and in some cases, government approval is required. Details are as follows:

Land nature must be clear
If placed on rural homesteads, it is essential to ensure that the homestead ownership is clear and legal, and it should not be an illegal construction or occupy someone else's homestead. If placed on wastelands such as barren mountains, slopes, abandoned ponds, or ditches, it is necessary to consult the relevant land management department in advance and obtain government permission before placement.

Compliance with urban-rural planning requirements
The placement of container houses should not affect urban-rural planning or damage land resources and the ecological environment. For example, it should not obstruct rural traffic or affect the lives of other villagers to avoid legal disputes.

Compliance of usage and installation methods

  • Temporary usage: If used for temporary storage of agricultural materials, tools, etc., such as guard houses for farmland and orchards, and if the plow layer is not damaged, water and electricity are not connected, and traditional infrastructure construction (such as hardening the ground and building permanent foundations) is not carried out, it is usually not considered an illegal construction.
  • Long-term usage: If used for business or residence, it may be identified as a "substantial change in land use" and requires a business license and government department approval. For example, if a container house B&B does not exceed the approved period, it may receive appropriate compensation in case of demolition; but if it is not approved, it may face penalties or forced demolition.

Government approval required in some cases

  • If local policies allow container houses to be used as temporary buildings, an application must be submitted to the relevant department, specifying the purpose, duration, etc., and approval must be obtained before placement.
  • If the policy does not allow or has restrictions, consider placing the container house in an allowed area or adjusting the design plan to comply with the regulations.

Other considerations

  • If a container house has been placed without approval, it is advisable to communicate with the local management department in a timely manner to understand the rectification requirements and avoid penalties or forced demolition.
  • Before placement, it is recommended to consult the relevant department first, go through the procedures according to the process, and clarify the usage period and purpose of the container.
