Container House Net Weight Standard

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

The net weight of container houses varies depending on their type, size, and material. The common net weight range for standard container types is between 1,200 kg and 3,800 kg, while custom non-standard containers may be lighter or heavier.

I. Net Weight Range of Standard Container Houses Take the internationally common 20-foot and 40-foot standard container houses as examples:

  1. 20-foot standard container: The external dimensions are 6058mm×2438mm×2591mm, and the internal dimensions are 5867mm×2330mm×2350mm, with a net weight of approximately 2,200 kg. This type of container is often used for single-person offices, dormitories, or shops. The frame is made of 2.3-3mm thick galvanized steel, and the walls are 50-75mm color-steel glass wool sandwich panels.
  2. 40-foot standard container: The external dimensions are 12192mm×2438mm×2591mm, and the internal dimensions are 11998mm×2330mm×2350mm, with a net weight of approximately 3,800 kg. This type of container has more space and is suitable for multi-person dormitories or multi-functional spaces. Its structural strength is the same as that of the 20-foot container, but its weight increases significantly due to its larger size.
  3. 40-foot high cube container: The external height is increased to 2896mm, and the internal clear height is 2655mm, with a higher net weight than the standard 40-foot container. It is suitable for scenarios with special height requirements (such as exhibition halls and housing). The weight increase mainly comes from the reinforced top structure.

II. Net Weight Differences of Non-Standard Container Houses Non-standard container types have a wider net weight range due to size or material adjustments:

  1. 10-foot non-standard container: The external dimensions are 2989mm×2438mm×2591mm, with a net weight of approximately 1,200 kg. It is suitable for small temporary facilities (such as sentry boxes and tool rooms) and reduces weight by reducing size.
  2. 16-foot non-standard container: The external dimensions are 4885mm×2438mm×2591mm, with a net weight of approximately 1,750 kg. It balances space and portability and is often used for construction site project offices.
  3. Custom container types: If aluminum alloy frames are used instead of steel, or lightweight composite sandwich panels are used, the net weight can be reduced by 20%-30%. Conversely, if the thickness of the insulation layer is increased or the structure is reinforced (such as for earthquake resistance), the weight may exceed that of standard container types.

III. Core Factors Affecting Net Weight

  1. Frame material: For every 1mm increase in steel thickness, the weight of a single container may increase by 300-500 kg. Aluminum alloy frames can reduce weight by 40%, but the cost is higher.
  2. Wall material: A 50mm thick expanded polystyrene (EPS) panel is about 150 kg lighter than a 75mm thick glass wool sandwich panel, but its fire resistance is poorer.
  3. Additional structures: If balconies, awnings, or second-floor slabs are added, the net weight may increase by an additional 500-1,000 kg.
