How Thick is the Glass in Container Houses
The thickness of glass in container houses varies depending on the type and purpose, commonly ranging from 4mm to 50mm, with specifics determined by the house's function and design requirements.

The glass thickness in temporary mobile panel houses typically ranges from 5mm to 12mm. These houses are mostly used for short-term residence or temporary office work, with lower requirements for the thermal insulation and sound insulation performance of the glass. Therefore, thinner ordinary glass can meet basic needs. For example, the window glass thickness in some temporary panel houses on construction sites is 5mm, which can ensure daylighting while controlling costs.
The thickness range of ordinary glass curtain walls is 6mm to 12mm, with single-layer glass curtain walls requiring a thickness of over 12mm. As an exterior maintenance structure of buildings, curtain walls need to balance aesthetics and safety, thus having higher requirements for the strength and stability of the glass. If single-layer glass is used, insufficient thickness may lead to a decrease in wind pressure resistance and an increased risk of breakage.
The thickness of multi-layer glass curtain walls usually ranges from 20mm to 50mm. These curtain walls are composed of two or more layers of glass combined through hollow layers or laminated layers. The hollow layers can be filled with inert gases to improve thermal insulation performance, while the laminated layers enhance the impact resistance of the glass. For example, the curtain walls of some high-end commercial buildings adopt a structure of "6mm glass + 12mm hollow layer + 6mm glass", with a total thickness of 24mm, meeting both energy-saving requirements and safety standards.
For full glass curtain walls, the thickness of the tempered glass panels should not be less than 10mm, the thickness of single pieces of laminated tempered glass should not be less than 8mm, and the cross-sectional thickness of the tempered glass curtain wall ribs should not be less than 12mm. Full glass curtain walls feature large areas of glass as a design highlight, imposing extremely high requirements on the strength and rigidity of the glass. Tempered glass enhances impact resistance through heat treatment processes, while laminated glass maintains structural integrity through PVB films when the glass breaks, preventing fragments from falling and causing injury.
In addition, the glass thickness in container houses from different manufacturers may vary. For example, the glass thickness in Suzhou Tianxiang container houses is 19mm, possibly adopting laminated or hollow structures to enhance performance; while the glass thickness in Suzhou Chengpin integrated houses is 4mm, possibly only used for simple partitions in non-load-bearing parts. When making actual selections, comprehensive evaluations based on the house's purpose, climatic conditions, and budget are necessary.
