Collection of Container House Design Samples

Quản trị 16 tháng 9, 2026

Currently, there is no publicly available comprehensive collection of container house design samples, but the diverse forms of container houses can be understood through practical cases and design features.

Design Features of Container Houses

The core of container house design lies in modularization and spatial reconstruction. The basic unit is a standard shipping container, typically measuring 20 feet (6.06 meters in length, 2.44 meters in width, and 2.59 meters in height) or 40 feet (12.2 meters in length, 2.44 meters in width, and 2.59 meters in height). These containers can be combined into single-story or multi-story buildings through stacking, joining, and cutting. Key considerations in design include structural stability, thermal insulation, ventilation, and lighting. For example, a young man in Denmark transformed a family home using nine containers, optimizing lighting by installing decorative panels and large windows while retaining the corrugated metal interior walls to highlight the industrial style. A family of four in a small town in Jiangsu chose insulated containers, achieving居住舒适性 (living comfort) through reasonable internal space planning and the installation of air conditioning.

Practical Cases of Container Houses

  1. Residential

    • Jiangsu Small Town Container Residence: Built on the original foundation using insulated containers, it includes functional areas such as bedrooms and living rooms. Temperature regulation is achieved through air conditioning to meet rural living needs.
    • Danish 9-Container Residence: A firefighter created his dream home using nine containers, enhancing aesthetics and lighting with decorative panels and large windows while retaining the characteristic texture of the containers.
    • Chilean Caterpillar House: Built along the slopes of the Andes Mountains, it utilizes five 40-foot, six 20-foot containers, and one 40-foot open-top container, achieving harmony with the natural environment through modular combination.
  2. Commercial and Public

    • South African Drivelines Studios Building: A seven-story residential building composed of 140 shipping containers, featuring open-plan designs with areas ranging from 30㎡ to 55㎡, exploring urban renewal and sustainable living models.
    • Czech Container Hotel: A two-story structure made of three containers (two 20-foot and one 40-foot), offering five rooms. It uses glass walls and spruce wood decoration, equipped with waterless toilets and sunshades, achieving a balance between environmental protection and functionality.
    • Songxiangyuan Container Cliff Restaurant: Assembled from 67 discarded containers, it features viewing platforms arranged along the mountain's contours. The interior space creates a perspective effect through container joining, combining structural performance with drama.
  3. Creative and Artistic

    • Joshua Tree Apartments: Multiple containers are arranged in a starburst style, painted bright white and extending in all directions to maximize landscape views and natural lighting, embodying sculptural aesthetic design.
    • Starbucks Taiwan Store: Composed of 29 white containers stacked in a grid pattern, forming a 320㎡ café space, showcasing the flexibility and visual impact of container architecture.
