Broadband Installation in Container Houses

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

Installing broadband in container houses requires considering the structural characteristics of the house and achieving stable network coverage through reasonable planning of equipment, wiring, and installation methods. The specific steps are as follows:

1. Confirm the Entry Method and Equipment Preparation

Container houses typically use Fiber to the Home (FTTH). It is necessary to confirm the type of equipment provided by the operator in advance. The core equipment includes the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and the router:

  • The ONT is responsible for converting optical signals into electrical signals. Operators generally provide gigabit ONTs (such as Huawei HN8145X6). However, note that their Wi-Fi coverage range is limited (e.g., it can only penetrate one load-bearing wall).
  • The router should be selected according to the house area. For small apartments (≤80㎡), the TP-Link XDR5430 (Wi-Fi 6) can be used. For large apartments (≥120㎡), the Huawei AX6 (Wi-Fi 6E) is recommended. For gamers, the ASUS RT-AX86U Pro (with a 2.5GE port) is an option.
  • If the house structure is complex or full-house seamless coverage is required, the operator can be requested to install an FTTR package (main ONT + sub-ONTs), extending the fiber to each room.

2. Plan the Wiring and Install the Weak Current Box

The metal structure of container houses may interfere with wireless signals. Priority should be given to planning wired wiring:

  • Weak current box selection: Choose a multimedia information box made of metal or engineering plastic (such as the 500X400X130 model from Yueqing Zhitian Electric Technology). It should have a heat dissipation design, modular expansion capability, and reserved power sockets.
  • Wiring plan:
    • For newly built houses: Pre-bury Category 6 or Category 7 network cables during the hard decoration stage (gigabit broadband requires Category 6 cables, and Category 7 cables can be prepared for future upgrades). Lead the cables from the weak current box to the living room, bedrooms, study, etc. Reserve at least 2 network interfaces in each room.
    • For already decorated houses: If no network cables are pre-buried, invisible optical fibers can be used or the original network cables can be pulled out and re-laid. If there is only one network cable, a switch or a network cable splitter can be used to achieve single-cable multiplexing (but the splitter only supports a maximum bandwidth of 100M).

3. Equipment Installation and Debugging

  • ONT installation: Avoid direct sunlight and reserve 20cm of heat dissipation space above it. Connect the入户光纤 (entry fiber) provided by the operator and the pre-buried network cable.
  • Router placement: Place it in the center of the house, at a height of 1-1.5 meters above the ground, and away from interference sources such as microwave ovens and Bluetooth devices. For large apartments or duplex houses, Mesh routers (such as the Linksys MX5502 dual-pack set) can be used to expand coverage.
  • Debugging and optimization: Test the download speed using a speed testing app (such as Speedtest). Analyze channel interference and optimize the 5GHz band channel using Wi-Fi Analyzer. Regularly update the router firmware to ensure stable device performance.

4. Solutions for Special Scenarios

  • Metal structure interference: The metal walls of container houses strongly attenuate Wi-Fi signals. In addition to wired wiring, sub-routers or powerline adapters can be added in areas with weak signals (such as bathrooms and balconies) (but the usage rate of powerline adapters has dropped to 12% by 2025).
  • Mobility requirements: If the house needs to be moved frequently, a rechargeable portable Wi-Fi device supporting Wi-Fi 6 (such as the Yunnan Xinjiang Mobile Broadband Router) can be selected. However, note its bandwidth and the limit on the number of connected devices.
