12-Meter Container Renovated House
The renovation of 12-meter containers into houses is feasible and has multiple successful cases. However, during the renovation process, it is necessary to comprehensively consider various factors such as space planning, structural safety, and functional configuration.

Space Planning and Utilization
A single 12-meter container has a length of 12 meters and a width of 2.4 meters. Its standardized modular design allows for flexible stacking and assembly. For example, there is a case where 16 construction-specific containers were combined in a crisscross pattern to form a four-story building, creating an impressive spatial scale. Two sisters transformed a 12-meter container into a 30㎡ luxury villa with a terrace. By adding an open-air balcony area on the top and designing the surrounding area as an outdoor leisure space, they reasonably planned the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Structural Safety and Stability
Container houses inherently have good earthquake resistance and structural stability. For instance, the fast-assembly container products from Suzhou Zhongnan use a fully steel structural frame. Third-party tests show that they can withstand wind speeds up to grade 12 and meet the seismic resistance requirements of the GB50011 - 2010 (2016 edition) standard, enabling them to cope with extreme weather conditions during the typhoon season in coastal areas. However, some non-standard off-brand products, in order to cut costs, use thin steel for the frame, which can only withstand wind speeds up to grade 8, posing safety risks. Therefore, it is important to choose reputable brands and qualified materials during renovation.
Functional Configuration and Comfort
Containers can be renovated into various functional spaces according to needs, such as residences, offices, and shops. In terms of residential renovation, appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines can be installed, but attention should be paid to solving issues such as heat insulation. For example, in the container house where the Chinese men's basketball team stayed, one air conditioner was not enough to deal with the heat insulation problem, and the organizing committee suggested opening the door before going to bed to cool the room. At the same time, it is necessary to reasonably plan areas such as bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms. In some renovation cases, sliding doors are used in bathrooms to save space, and cabinets are embedded with small refrigerators and washing machines, improving space utilization.
Cost and Environmental Advantages
Container houses avoid long-term outdoor work. Most of the work can be completed in the factory and then assembled on-site, which can greatly save time and labor costs. Moreover, the container bodies are recyclable, aligning with the concept of "green buildings".
