Concrete Prefabricated Panel House Construction

Quản trị 18 tháng 9, 2026

Concrete prefabricated panel house construction is a method that uses factory-prefabricated components as the core, completing building construction through on-site assembly and installation. It features short construction periods and low costs but has potential issues with structural safety, sound and thermal insulation, and waterproofing. Currently, it is mostly used for temporary buildings or low-rise rural buildings.

Construction Methods and Processes

Prefabricated panels are standardized cement components produced in factories. During production, wooden molds are nailed together, reinforced with steel bars, and then filled with cement to form solid or hollow structures (hollow panels have long circular holes in the middle to reduce weight). During construction, the prefabricated panels are transported to the site by vehicles and installed using equipment such as vacuum laying machines: the vacuum suction cups grip the concrete panels, move them along the base rails to the designated positions, and then release the suction cups to complete the assembly. For example, laying a ground area of over a thousand square meters can be completed in a single day, significantly more efficient than cast-in-place construction.

Core Advantages

  1. Construction Period and Cost Advantages: Factory prefabrication avoids the curing time required for on-site pouring, greatly shortening the construction period; the amount of steel used and labor costs are lower than those for cast-in-place structures, highlighting its economic efficiency.
  2. Reusability: Prefabricated panels are easy to dismantle, and the components can be recycled, making them suitable for the rapid construction and dismantling of temporary sites (such as temporary roads and movable panel houses).

Potential Issues

  1. Insufficient Structural Safety: Gaps exist between the assembled panels, resulting in weak overall integrity and poor earthquake resistance; small earthquakes may cause collapse.
  2. Poor Sound and Thermal Insulation: Prefabricated panels are typically only about 10 centimeters thick, and their hollow structures easily transmit sound. Additionally, the limited filling of thermal insulation materials makes them prone to being hot in summer and having weak insulation in winter.
  3. Prominent Waterproofing Problems: If the gaps between assembled panels are not properly treated, rainwater can easily seep in and corrode the internal steel bars, shortening the lifespan of the house.

Application Scenarios and Technological Development

  • Historical Applications: From the early 20th century to before 1985, prefabricated panel houses were widely used in China for residential floor slabs, roof insulation layers, and other scenarios.
  • Current Applications: They are mostly used for temporary sites (such as temporary concrete roads) or as floor and roof panels in low-rise rural buildings.
  • Technological Replacement Trends: Traditional prefabricated panel houses are gradually being replaced by cast-in-place concrete and prefabricated buildings. The latter uses modular components made of steel-concrete integral pouring, improving earthquake resistance and shortening the construction period by 30%. Since 2022, China has implemented renovation policies, focusing on repairing and upgrading prefabricated panel houses and only demolishing those that meet the criteria for dangerous buildings.

Concrete prefabricated panel house construction requires balancing efficiency and safety. It remains practical for temporary buildings or low-rise structures, but long-term use requires strengthening structural reinforcement and waterproofing treatments.
