Chinese Container Renovated Housing
The application of container-renovated housing in China is extensive, covering residential, large-event accommodation, and commercial scenarios, among others.

In the residential sector, there are cases of transforming discarded containers into luxurious homes. For instance, a couple spent four years using two containers to create a spacious three-bedroom, one-living-room luxury apartment. This practice not only demonstrates the creativity of container-renovated housing but also showcases its feasibility in residential space design. Through reasonable planning and decoration, containers can be transformed into comfortable and distinctive living environments.
Container-renovated housing also finds applications in large-event accommodation. Taking the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games as an example, approximately 2,400 people were accommodated in steel containers by the dock, officially referred to as 'Asian Games Villas.' Each container covers an area of about 30 square meters and is equipped with three to four beds. However, this application has also revealed some issues, such as poor living experience due to narrow spaces, inadequate cooling facilities making it difficult to rest comfortably in hot weather, and safety hazards like water ingress during heavy rain. These problems highlight the need for more detailed design and improvements when using containers for large-event accommodation, taking into full consideration the actual usage environment and the needs of occupants.
In the commercial sector, domestic companies such as Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. and CIMC Modular Building Investment Co., Ltd. are actively engaged in the research and development, and production of container mobile housing products. They offer foldable and standard container mobile houses suitable for various scenarios, including emergency rescue, commercial pop-ups, and overseas engineering camps. These products have been optimized for portability and structural stability, meeting the usage needs of different scenarios and demonstrating the flexibility and practicality of container-renovated housing in commercial applications.
