Can Container Houses Be Tiled?

Quản trị 17 tháng 9, 2026

Container houses can be tiled, but it depends on the usage scenario and conditions.

In early production processes, wave tiles would first be laid on the nine crossbeams of the container's bottom frame, secured with self-tapping screws, followed by the application of cement mortar, and finally the laying of tiles. This process is similar to that of traditional home decoration flooring, requiring a mortar layer about 4 centimeters thick. The advantages of this tiling method are significant: the tile color can be personalized, making the overall appearance elegant and easy to maintain; increasing the self-weight lowers the center of gravity of the house, enhancing its wind resistance; if the tiling quality is good, the tile lifespan can reach 4 to 10 years, or even match that of the container. However, the drawbacks cannot be overlooked: the tiling process is time-consuming, requiring at least two days for the cement to dry; labor costs are high, and the quality is greatly influenced by the skill level of the tiler, making it difficult to achieve large-scale, short-term production.

In practice, the bottom plate of an ordinary container is relatively thin, and directly laying tiles may cause collapse due to excessive weight. Therefore, a base treatment is required first, such as laying cement boards or wooden floors, and implementing waterproofing measures. U-shaped aluminum channels should be installed at the joints and sealed with glass glue. The thickness of the cement base layer should be at least 5 centimeters, with tile joints left at 2 to 3 millimeters. Epoxy resin-based grout is recommended to ensure firmness and waterproofing. If the container house is used in scenarios requiring weight-bearing, such as warehouses, a road roller should be used for compaction to enhance overall stability.

Additionally, cost factors must be considered. For container houses intended for temporary use of only two years, the cost of tiling is too high, approximately 200 yuan per square meter. In comparison, replacing with plastic flooring is more cost-effective. Meanwhile, if the container is severely rusted, the repair cost may exceed the cost of replacing it with a new one, in which case a comprehensive assessment is needed to determine whether tiling is worthwhile.
