Brunei Cement Prefabricated Housing

Quản trị 18 tháng 9, 2026

Brunei has not yet widely adopted the overall technical system of cement prefabricated housing, with its water village houses mainly undergoing modernization improvements in foundation and roofing materials.

The Brunei water village is a highly distinctive residential area. Since the 1940s, houses here have undergone a series of modernization transformations. In terms of foundations, traditional or simple support structures that may have been used originally have gradually been replaced by cement pile foundations. Cement pile foundations are sturdy and durable, better adapting to the complex hydrological environment of the water village, providing stable support for houses, effectively resisting water flow impacts and foundation settlement issues, and ensuring the safety and stability of houses.

There have also been significant changes in roofing materials. Traditional roofing materials such as thatch that may have been used in the past have gradually been replaced by metal materials like iron sheets. Iron sheet roofs offer numerous advantages. They have good waterproof performance, effectively preventing rainwater leakage and protecting the interior of houses from moisture. At the same time, metal materials are relatively sturdy and can withstand certain external forces such as wind and falling objects, extending the service life of roofs. Moreover, the installation of iron sheet roofs is relatively simple, and maintenance costs are low, meeting the practical needs of water village residents.

Currently, the Brunei water village is large in scale, consisting of 40 villages with an area of 2.6 square kilometers and housing about 30,000 residents. These houses are connected by winding boardwalks with a total length of 36 kilometers, forming a complete community. However, from the perspective of the overall building technical system, there is no information indicating that the Brunei water village currently widely uses cement prefabricated housing technology. Cement prefabricated housing generally refers to the pre-fabrication of various components of a house in a factory, followed by transportation to the site for assembly. This technology has advantages such as fast construction speed and controllable quality. But the house construction in the Brunei water village focuses more on the renewal and improvement of local materials in traditional buildings to meet the needs of modern life, rather than fully adopting the overall technical system of cement prefabricated housing.
