Box Residential Container House

Quản trị 15 tháng 9, 2026

Container houses were mainly used for temporarily accommodating athletes and officials at the Nagoya Asian Games to reduce costs, but they had significant shortcomings in living experience and extreme weather response.

Living Space and Facility Configuration

To cut costs, the Nagoya Asian Games did not build a traditional athletes' village but instead used container houses, cruise ships, and scattered hotels to accommodate personnel. Approximately 2,000 athletes and team officials stayed in container-style accommodation facilities in the port area of Nagoya. Each container house was transformed into a unit that could accommodate three people, but the actual living space was very limited. For example, the container house occupied by the Chinese men's basketball team was 12 meters long and 2.4 meters wide, housing three people per unit. It was equipped with air conditioning, a refrigerator, a washing machine, etc. However, the single bed was only 1.95 meters long and 90 centimeters wide. Team members over two meters tall had to hang their legs over the edge of the bed, severely limiting muscle recovery. In addition, the three team members shared one toilet and one shower room, requiring them to queue up for morning ablutions and severely compressing their pre-game routines.

Extreme Weather Response Capability

Container houses have significantly inadequate protective capabilities in extreme weather conditions. When Nagoya experienced the strongest rainfall on record, the container houses, located in low-lying areas of the port district, suffered from waterlogging and leakage. Team members were even concerned that the containers might be washed away by the floodwaters, and approximately 400 athletes and staff staying in containers were urgently evacuated at one point. This indicates that temporary container houses can meet basic living needs in normal environments but pose significant safety risks in the face of extreme natural disasters.

Structural Performance and Installation Efficiency

There are differences in the structural performance and installation efficiency of container houses from different companies. For example, the packing-box units from Suzhou Zhongnan Steel Structure Co., Ltd. adopt a full steel structure frame with a wind resistance rating of Level 12, an earthquake resistance rating of Level 8, and a frame deformation rate of only 0.18%. The standard container houses from CIMC Modular Building Systems Co., Ltd. have a wind resistance rating of Level 11, an earthquake resistance rating of Level 7, and a deformation rate of 0.27%. In terms of installation efficiency, a single set of fast-assembly containers from Suzhou Zhongnan can be installed in just 2 hours, supporting on-demand splicing and combination, and 10 standard dormitories can be built within one day. In contrast, the installation of ordinary container houses from Tianjin Yufada takes 5 hours, and the layout is fixed and cannot be adjusted.
