Wilderness Container Renovated House

Admin 15 de septiembre de 2026

The renovation of container houses in the wilderness requires comprehensive consideration of design, functionality, cost, and environmental adaptability. Through reasonable planning, livable spaces can be created.

I. Space Design and Functional Implementation
The core of container renovation lies in breaking through the limitations of the original structure. For example, adopting a hydraulic deck design, side wall panels can be extended via an electric system to create a patio area, increasing activity space. Inside, furniture often employs foldable or built-in designs, such as beds and sofas that can be stored in walls, as well as adjustable dining tables, enabling a 30㎡ space to accommodate seven people. Additionally, by connecting multiple containers (e.g., in an L-shaped layout) or adding mezzanines, functional areas such as a main living room, kitchen, and bathroom can be delineated to meet daily needs.

II. Environmental Adaptation and Comfort Enhancement
The wilderness environment demands higher standards for insulation, lighting, and ventilation in housing. During renovation, insulation materials (e.g., polystyrene boards) should be added to the inner walls of containers, with wooden or metal panels covering the exterior to enhance durability. Installing solar panels on the roof can address electricity needs, paired with batteries for energy self-sufficiency. Adjustable roof rods or skylights can improve ventilation while introducing natural light. For instance, in one case, the installation of three solar panels on the roof, combined with a well water supply system, enabled independent living without municipal utilities.

III. Cost Control and Material Selection
Container renovation offers significant cost advantages. Second-hand containers are inexpensive (approximately 10,000-20,000 yuan for two), though additional renovation costs (500-2000 yuan per square meter) are required. In terms of materials, engineered wood is popular due to its low cost and resistance to deformation, paired with natural wood finishes for a warm ambiance. Kitchens and bathrooms adopt modular designs (e.g., wall-mounted toilets, open shelving), saving space and facilitating maintenance. For example, in a 15㎡ case, custom foldable beds and full-wall cabinets kept total costs under 110,000 yuan.

IV. Compliance and Safety
Before renovation, land use must be confirmed, and approval procedures (e.g., homestead approval) completed. Structurally, wooden frames should reinforce container bodies, with fire-resistant and moisture-proof materials installed (e.g., black fireproof boards in kitchens), along with safety equipment like smoke detectors. Furthermore, containers exhibit superior seismic performance compared to traditional houses, making them suitable as shelters or vacation cottages.
