How Heavy is One Container House

Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026

The weight of one container house typically ranges from 1350 kg to 3000 kg, depending on its type, material, and structural design. Here is an analysis of the weight ranges and influencing factors for different types of container houses:

1. Standard Container Houses
These houses are modified from standard shipping containers and usually weigh around 3000 kg (3 tons). Their structure follows the framework of international standard containers, made of high-strength steel welded together, with wall thickness and load-bearing design suitable for transportation and stacking. For example, the empty weight of a 20-foot standard container is about 2.3 tons. After being converted into a house, the addition of insulation layers, doors, windows, and other structures may increase the weight to around 3 tons.

2. Packing-Box Container Houses
Characterized by lightweight design, a typical example like the Tengfei packing-box container house weighs about 1350 kg and measures 6055mm×2990mm×2896mm. These houses are assembled in a modular fashion, with frames made of thin-walled steel or aluminum alloy and walls filled with lightweight insulation materials (such as rock wool or polystyrene board), significantly reducing the overall weight. Products from different suppliers may vary in weight by 10%-15% due to differences in material and craftsmanship, but they are generally lighter than traditional container houses.

3. 6-Meter Empty Container Houses
The weight range of 6-meter empty container houses is between 2200 kg and 3000 kg (2.2-3 tons). The weight difference mainly stems from material selection (such as ordinary steel or weathering steel) and structural design (such as single-layer or double-layer wall panels). For example, a container house made of high-strength weathering steel may have thinner walls but higher strength, resulting in a weight closer to the lower limit; whereas a house with additional internal support structures or thicker floors may weigh closer to the upper limit.

Summary of Weight Influencing Factors

  • Material: The strength, thickness, and alloy composition of steel directly affect the weight, with high-strength steel reducing weight by 10%-20%.
  • Structural Design: Double-layer wall panels, reinforced frames, or additional equipment (such as air conditioning brackets) increase the weight.
  • Functional Configuration: Non-structural components such as insulation layers, decorative materials, and door and window types can account for 10%-30% of the total weight.

In practical applications, it is necessary to choose the appropriate type based on transportation restrictions, foundation bearing capacity, and usage scenarios. For example, lightweight packing-box container houses are preferred for temporary construction site housing, while heavier traditional container houses may be used for long-term fixed residential scenarios to enhance stability.
