Using Umbrella as a Mobile Toilet

Admin 27 de septiembre de 2026

In scenarios such as highway traffic jams, an umbrella can be used to set up a simple mobile toilet. Here are the specific steps and precautions:

Setup Steps

  1. Select the Car Doors
    When the vehicle is stationary due to a traffic jam, prioritize opening two adjacent car doors (such as the driver's side and the passenger's side, or the two rear doors) simultaneously to create a standing space for one person. If the distance between the front and rear vehicles is too close, open both side doors and adjust the direction of the umbrella, or use the front and rear doors to form a natural screen to block the view.

  2. Secure the Umbrella
    Choose an automatic folding umbrella with sturdy ribs, thick and waterproof fabric. A medium or small lightweight model is easier to secure. Fixing methods include:

  • Insert the umbrella handle into the gap between the two doors, or hold it steady with your hand and then wedge it horizontally across the top handle/lock of the car door, securing it with tape or a rope;
  • Align the umbrella handle with the door handle and tighten it, or use a clip inside the car to assist in securing it;
  • Ensure the umbrella canopy is fully open, covering the top and both sides to form a closed area.
  1. Use the Toilet
  • Privacy: After the umbrella canopy blocks the view, people outside cannot see the actions inside. Women can squat, and men can stand to use it without worrying about exposure;
  • Space and Convenience: There is enough space under the umbrella, and the car doors can be opened and closed easily for entry and exit. Partially closing the rear door can further prevent wind;
  • Adaptability: It can block car lights at night to protect privacy; women can change sanitary napkins during their menstrual period; families with children can handle emergency situations such as a child wetting their pants; in winter snowy weather, it can prevent snow from drifting in.
  1. Cleanup
    After use, shake off any residue on the umbrella canopy and fold the umbrella and put it back in the car. If the umbrella canopy is wet, dry it before storing it for next use.

Precautions

  • Safe Location Selection: When parking, choose the road shoulder or the edge of the traffic flow (such as the side of the rear or front of the vehicle), avoid parking in the middle of the road, and turn on the car lights and warning lights;
  • Item Preparation: Keep toilet paper, wet wipes, and masks (to prevent odors) in the car at all times. You can also use a plastic basin or a folding toilet seat cover to improve hygiene;
  • Umbrella Selection: Avoid overly large umbrellas (which may not stay in place easily). Prioritize lightweight folding models that are easy to carry and do not take up much trunk space;
  • Special Scenarios: It works better at night or in bad weather (such as snowy days), but ensure the umbrella ribs are wind-resistant to avoid being blown over.
