Underwater Container House Design

Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026

Underwater container house design is an architectural form that combines creativity and practicality, with common design methods including riverbed caisson camouflage, courtyard pit transformation, and riverside underground burial.

1. Riverbed Caisson Camouflage Design
This design centers around a container with an entrance opened at the top, which is sunk into the riverbed and then covered with soil and vegetation to achieve external camouflage, creating a concealed space that blends with the natural environment. The internal structure uses bamboo to build walls and top joists, ensuring structural stability while reflecting ecological and environmental protection concepts. The lightweight nature of bamboo reduces the overall load of the container, while its natural texture creates a unique visual effect with the underwater environment. Such designs need to focus on waterproofing performance, requiring the application of waterproof coatings on the inner and outer walls of the container and the installation of drainage systems to prevent water infiltration. Additionally, the entrance design should balance concealment and safety, typically using openable covers or trapezoidal channels to prevent unauthorized access by outsiders.

2. Courtyard Pit Transformation Design
This approach starts with a reserved pit in the courtyard, transforming an industrial-style container into an immersive underwater space. During the transformation process, structural reinforcement of the container is necessary, such as adding steel support columns at the four corners and welding horizontal connecting beams to enhance resistance to water pressure. The internal space division can be tailored to functional needs, using glass partitions or metal frames for zoning, while retaining the original industrial elements of the container (such as corrugated steel plates) as decorations, creating a visual style that combines ruggedness with modernity. Water feature integration is a key aspect, requiring observation windows to be installed at the bottom or sides of the container, using double-layer tempered glass to ensure waterproofing, and equipped with defogging systems to maintain clear visibility.

3. Riverside Underground Burial Concept Design
This design creates a completely invisible secret base by deeply burying discarded second-hand shipping containers, with construction steps including lawn marking, excavator digging, and hoisting the container into the ground. To cope with the damp underground environment, a moisture-proof and sound-insulating layer (such as a combination of polyethylene film and sound-absorbing cotton) needs to be laid, and modern wooden frames are used as indoor support structures, both isolating the metallic coldness of the container and enhancing living comfort. The minimalist and luxurious decoration style emphasizes clean lines and material contrasts, such as white walls paired with metal lamps, or wooden furniture combined with concrete floors. The side explosion-proof glass floor-to-ceiling windows are a core design element, requiring the use of laminated glass with strong impact resistance and adjustable sunshades to cope with different lighting conditions. The top ecological turf camouflage must ensure that the plant roots do not damage the container structure, typically using shallow-rooted herbaceous plants and laying artificial soil layers.
