Foundation of Two-Story Container House

Admin 17 de septiembre de 2026

The foundation design of a two-story container house requires comprehensive consideration of load-bearing capacity, safety, and external loads. The key points are as follows:

1. Selection of Foundation Types

The foundation of a two-story container house must ensure overall structural stability. Typically, independent concrete foundations or strip foundations are used. Independent foundations are suitable for point-load distributions, dispersing pressure by expanding the base area, and are applicable in areas with good geological conditions and concentrated loads. Strip foundations are suitable for continuous load distributions, such as when containers are arranged in rows, and can evenly transfer loads to the foundation. The foundation depth should be determined based on geological survey results to ensure that the bearing capacity meets design requirements and to avoid uneven settlement.

2. Connection Between the Ground Floor Container and the Foundation

The ground floor container is directly connected to the foundation, and the connection method must ensure structural integrity. Typically, embedded part welding or high-strength bolt fixation is used:

  • Embedded part welding: During foundation construction, steel plates or anchor bolts are embedded. The bottom frame of the container is welded to the embedded parts, forming a rigid connection and enhancing lateral resistance.
  • High-strength bolt fixation: Chemical anchor bolts or expansion bolts are used to fix the bottom of the container to the foundation, suitable for scenarios requiring rapid installation or disassembly. However, it is essential to ensure that the bolt grade and anchoring depth meet tensile and shear requirements.

3. Connection Design Between Upper and Lower Containers

The upper container is connected to the lower one through welding or high-strength bolts, with connection points requiring strict calculations:

  • Welding connection: Suitable for permanent structures, loads are transferred through fillet welds or butt welds. Welding quality must be controlled to avoid stress concentrations.
  • Bolt connection: High-strength friction-type bolts are used, providing frictional resistance through pre-tensioning. Bolt loosening must be regularly checked. Connection points should be arranged at the nodes of the container frame to avoid local damage.

4. Consideration of External Loads

During design, building structural codes must be followed, considering the following external factors:

  • Wind load: Calculate wind pressure based on local wind speed ratings. Enhance structural wind resistance by increasing the number of connection points or adding wind braces.
  • Snow load: In snowy areas, check the roof's load-bearing capacity and add diagonal braces or reinforce the roof structure if necessary.
  • Seismic action: In seismic fortification areas, seismic design is required. Reduce seismic energy input by installing energy dissipation devices or flexible connections.

Summary: The foundation design of a two-story container house must prioritize safety. By reasonably selecting foundation types, strengthening connection nodes, and considering external loads, structural stability and reliability can be ensured throughout its lifecycle.
