Transparent Mobile Toilet Restroom
Transparent mobile toilet restrooms are a special type of toilet constructed entirely of transparent glass, utilizing people's sense of shame to encourage users to maintain hygiene, and have been implemented in various locations worldwide.

Domestic and International Applications
- Domestic: Since the early 21st century, transparent toilets have gradually emerged in various parts of China. In 2004, a bar in Nanjing installed transparent toilets that allowed for one-way visibility from the inside, ensuring user privacy to a certain extent while allowing the external observation of the overall hygiene conditions inside the toilet. In February 2015, China's first five-star transparent toilet opened in Guilin, Guangxi, followed by the emergence of transparent toilets in Wuhan, Jianyang, Taiyuan, Hangzhou, and other places. However, some transparent toilets have prompted rectifications due to privacy concerns, such as adding frosted paper or film to enhance privacy protection.
- International: There are also numerous cases of transparent toilets abroad. London's transparent toilets use special glass to achieve an invisible effect from the outside, meeting the internal lighting needs of the toilet while protecting user privacy. Some transparent toilets in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, feature more advanced designs. Their glass contains a large number of liquid crystal molecules. When the toilet is unoccupied and powered on, the liquid crystal molecules align neatly, making the glass transparent; when someone locks the door to use the toilet, the glass automatically becomes frosted, effectively protecting user privacy.
Design Intent and Significance
The design intent of transparent toilets is to utilize people's sense of shame to encourage users to maintain hygiene in an open environment. This design concept can, to a certain extent, improve toilet hygiene and reduce uncivilized behavior. At the same time, as a novel architectural form, transparent toilets also possess certain ornamental and conversational value, attracting people's attention and becoming a unique landscape in cities. However, transparent toilets also face challenges in terms of privacy protection and need to be continuously improved and refined in the design and application process to balance openness and privacy.
